A large tree collapsed onto the Fort Branch Museum in Oak City, NC, causing severe structural damage. The museum’s historical artifacts have since been relocated.
The incident was revealed Monday by the Historical Fort Branch museum through a Facebook post – that post has now been deleted. According to museum officials, the announcement about the destruction was intentionally delayed until all valuable artifacts could be safely moved to a secure location to avoid potential theft.

Although the museum was insured, officials say the coverage is insufficient due to the increased costs of construction today.
