the cool thing about the NBA top 50 was having all the players join together on the court. I could real care less about them just releasing a list of names. They could have done this on All Star Weekend and brought out everyone who could join

They announced the 50 list at the beginning of the 96 season and then had them meet up at the allstar game:yeshrug:

NBA at 50: Top 50 Players | NBA.com

So boasts the collective resume of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History, selected by a blue-ribbon panel of media, former players and coaches, current and former general managers and team executives. NBA Commissioner David Stern announced the 50 Greatest Players at a press luncheon on Oct. 29, 1996, in New York City.

That’s how they did it last time too though; announced it at the start of the season then had the ceremony at ASG.

why didn't they just add 25 new guys since we know the OG 50? Are they taking someone off?
It’s essentially a new list so it’s possible some names will be replaced. But who knows. Kinda fukked up for whoever gets dropped, especially since they’ll be dropped due to votes from people who never saw them play and don’t really have any historical perspective of the game.

Well hopefully they do that. I also think the landscape has changed since the NBA 50. With the over saturation of sports media I have a top something list thrown at me seemingly every week. The whole idea has lost its luster a bit. I just wish they made it feel more special than how they are unveiling it but it’s whatever at the end of the day
