OKC was still #10 in 3 point attempts, and the difference between #10 and #2 (GSW) was only 3-4 attempts per game.
We talking 39 3p attempts per game

Why was the 3 obsession ever a thing? GsW was great at the mid-range IIRC. They were just great at 3s too.
Purely analytics tbh.

Elite shooters can do damage anywhere, so it doesn't matter.

Elite slasher/volume shooter types + foul merchants are going to make their living at the line and driving to the hoop.

Overall, I'm seeing that the NBA 3pt shooting percentage is just under 36%. Let's say John Q. Smith, average NBA guard shoots 36% from 3. That equals 108 points per 100 shots. In order to match that shooting only 2's, you'd have to hit 54% inside the arc...which is getting to a FG% more common with bigs than wings. Jordan shot right at 50% for his career by comparison.

However......the league 2pt FG% has improved enough to where 3s don't always make sense anymore. Lots of midrange as there's more space with all the 3s being shot. Guys aren't taking long 2s but they WILL take closer midrange 2s, plus the usual dribble-drive layups/dunks.
