Larry Brown was on the radio today and while this story came out a month ago, I'm not sure if a lot of people heard about it nationally. As Brown tells it, they had Pierce as the 2nd best player in the draft but he took Larry because he promised him that if he were available at 8 he would be taken.
To me, unless hes a can't miss prospect, you don't play that promise game shyt. We missed out on a duo that could have taken the east for almost a decade. Instead they trade Hughes two years later for Tyrone Hill :mjlol:

using hindsight makes it easy but at the time it's rare that people don't think a player will produce...Because you couldn't of told me that the most dominant Freshman I've seen since Kevin Durant (Michael Beasly) wouldn't do shyt in the league when he was at Kansas State.

And I think a lot of us were in the same boat with Beasley. He just didn't pan out, that's all...He was the consensus #2 pick that year. My point is that when you tell people that a player is #2 on your draft board, yet you draft another player because of a promise...I don't think its quite the same thing.

Beasley is the worst pick simply becauze it wasnt injuries or overhype...he just didnt try hard enough or jave that drive to be at the very least a 17 and 9 guy. He should at the very max be averaging 24 and 10 on a decent team yet he found a way to not even be half as good

He wasn't on Pierce or Dirk level, but Larry Hughes was nice for a minute though. Arenas & Hughes looked like they were going to be an ill backcourt for a long while. He was going to be an All Star in 05 before he got hurt and was nice on defense. :manny: Not his fault Bron turned him into a spot up shooter in Cleveland. :troll:
