The conference final west coast games start at 9 and no one complains.

So start east coast games at 6.30 and west coast games at 9.00 when we have double headers on nat tv
Have you been to east coast games? The league would rather have fans in the building when the game starts. It’s a pain in the ass to get inside the building and unlike baseball, you know when it ends, so fans aren’t gonna wanna pay to essentially watch 2 1/2 quarters of basketball.

Besides, the NBA is so hung up on getting those prime time ratings that they want the games to start when they know everyone is either home or at the arena. To them, starting games at 7:30 is doing y’all a favor. They’d start it at 8 if they could.

Sounds like a plea cop for ratings that aren't where you want them to be. No matter what the issue is, when in doubt just throw Bron's name out there and everyone will feed on that like piranha. If that is truly the case then you are fukked because he's only gonna be around for another 5 years at the most. What you gonna tell these TV partners pumping these billions into your league then? How about you build other stars, or return the focus to teams, or update this shytty outdated playoff structure, stop holding out hope for that 8 game 7s weekend, get rid of the zone to allow different types of play to have a chance?

all east coast games with national doubleheaders start at 8pm here unless its espn in which case some start at 7pm.

honestly there's no way to pleas any of the timezone crowds

westcoast people wont be able to see half the game and east coast people wont get any sleep

And so, from a rating standpoint, not having LeBron in the playoffs, not having him in the East, has clearly impacted ratings."
.
what about the fact that there's no reason to watch the playoffs for the outcome, because the golden state dikkriders are a lock again? does that play any part in the ratings?

This is an example of why I say NBA marketing is ass.
Relying on the legs of your players rather than building allegiance around your TEAMS will always leave your league in a cyclical rut.

Been screaming it for years.

I think this should be a more broad topic and cover other sports. I have always just assumed that the East Coast was used to watching sporting events late. I thought just because I have been to NY that most people on East Coast stay up late regardless.

This is a crazy thought that people who watch the game on TV carry more weight than the attending person who bought a ticket and would have to deal with leaving work early, traffic, etc just to make the game at all.

More people watch the games on TV then actually go to them. I think moving the times is a horrible idea btw

This is just one of those "let's just throw out a statement, with a half-ass reason, and people will accept it" type things. YOU are the product, YOU create the excitement, if there is none. Their marketing strategy/team is retarded, and Silver has no sort of strategy. He needs to call Stern for pointers. I'd apply for a position in their marketing dept, if I wanted to commute to NY everyday.

Breh these games aren’t ending until 1 in the morning. nikkas got work in the morning. Dame ain’t paying my bills. These games do need to start earlier. It wouldn’t be an issue if the talent wasn’t all centered in one conference

There were great and interesting players in the east to off-set it. Bird and Jordan in Magic's era and Iverson, Mcgrady, Carter, Lebron ect. in Kobe and Shaq's era

I know, but that's not what I was asking...I was asking, were people on the East coast not watching the Lakers in those eras? (Regardless of what the general ratings were. Not trolling, I'm really curious. It would be crazy for me to learn that me living in Europe watched Kobe more than people on the East coast)
