Drake was the King. No question. He ran the game for over a decade, but that last round with Kendrick? Yeah, that was the end of the my guys reign in Hip Hop(not music, but Hip Hop)

Every era ends, and every dog has its day.:yeshrug:

Now, YoungBoy is this generation’s King. I’m honestly not sure why this is even still being debated by folks like me over 30. At some point, you just have to nod your head and accept it. The argument against him doesn’t really hold weight anymore. It’s fruitless

The only time I’ve seen something similar in Hip Hop was when the crowd was filled almost entirely with young Black Americans. like the whole culture was reflected right there in the audience. That’s the energy YB commands. He doesn’t need crossover appeal; his base is his world. But now watch what is about to happen. His ascendence will open up floodgates for those who yearn for more punchlines and bars(think Blog era)

Drake made perfect sense for his time. I mean coming right after Kanye, Jay-Z, and Wayne, his heroes it makes sense. His reign fit that lineage.

And YB makes just as much sense now. He’s a product of the era after Chief Keef, Drake, Wayne, Future, and Kevin Gates, etc . You can hear bits of all of them in his music, yet he’s still entirely his own man
Does his music appeal to me personally? Not in the fukking slightest. But I completely understand why the younger generation worships him. It adds up.

Was the king of what

never. his music is nowhere near as palatable and is (at least it was) too negative for the masses.

People just don’t get how Youngboy, for better or worse, has the young Black demographic on lock and that’s all he needs. White acceptance doesn’t matter at all when you have that.

Similar to a Boosie or Yo Gotti but he’s done it without any real mainstream commercial hits.

No way you can call this wack
