This is the toughest division in all of sports and it's been that way for over a decade all 5 of em made the playoffs this year with a collective win percentage of 0.64. The way these franchises are run it's gone be like this for a long time. They gotta move NO or Memphis to a Eastern conference division and break up the Texas teams. If one of these teams played in a different division they might of won 64+ games.

its called cycles

But honestly, they should end divisions

I know but the owners/Gm's of these teams have been 5 steps ahead of 90% of league and I don't see that changing. A Mark Cuban owned team is not gonna suck, The Spurs owner lets people that know what there doing handle their business and doesn't get in the way. The Rockets GM has changed the way we look at 3's. AD has all time great potential and the Pelicans are gonna be competitive as long as he is playing for them. It's gone be like this for the foreseeable future. He have divisions where a non .500 gets into the playoffs and plays a sub 0.500 team while these 5 teams gotta battle it out for a playoff spot and if they make it they could be gone in 1 or 2 rounds because of the set up. The NBA has to do something about this division it ain't gone change.

No keep divisions to make scheduling easier, but do the seeds 1-16 regardless of division winners and conferences.

We coulda had something like this

1. Warriors vs 16 Boston = Warriors in 4
2. Atlanta vs 15 Bucks = Hawks in 4
3. Houston vs 14 OKC = Houston in 6
4. Cliipers vs 13 Pels = Clippers in 5
5. Memphis vs 12 Wizards = Memphis in 6
6. Spurs vs 11 Raptors = Spurs in 6
7. Cavs vs 10 Mavs = Cavs in 6
8. Blazers vs 9 Bulls = Bulls in 6

Much better matchups

They play the same teams as any other team in the conference. This isn't like MLB or the NFL

Naw they play everyone in the division 4 times and than it varies sometimes they play other conference teams 3 or 4 times. For example the Rockets only played the Lakers and Kings 3 times each this year you don't think they could of gotten a couple more wins if they played both 4 times?

1. NBA SCHEDULING FORMULA
Each team have to play:
  • 4 games against the other 4 division opponents, [4x4=16 games]
  • 4 games against 6 (out-of-division) conference opponents, [4x6=24 games]
  • 3 games against the remaining 4 conference teams, [3x4=12 games]
  • 2 games against teams in the opposing conference. [2x15=30 games]

1. That variance is widespread.

2. It's random.

3. You don't even really notice it.
