All told, 47% of all unsheltered homeless people nationwide — meaning those who sleep in areas not meant for habitation, such as sidewalks, parks, cars and abandoned buildings, rather than in shelters — live in the Golden State, according to a new report on homelessness from the White House Council of Economic Advisers. Unsheltered homeless people represent just over a third (35%) of the overall homeless population nationwide.

At the city level, four of the five cities with the highest rate of unsheltered homelessness are in California: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Rosa and San Jose. Seattle joins the California municipalities in the top five.

Tents are all over the place in DC. I never seen it so widespread in my life. And I remember being on the U Street corridor as a kid in the 1990s when DC was a more violent place, more hood.
I went to the movies in Chinatown earlier this week and it felt like every third person was homeless asking for money.

This country has a massive problem and it does not want to acknowledge it.

American exceptionalism at work. Stick your head in the sand and deflect blame when something is wrong. It’s been our undoing for a good 240 years now. Same problem we always have. Same exact cause every time.

It’s crazy breh

My boss invited me to an event he was moderating the other night right next to Freedom Plaza. I parked my car up 13th a block away.

Leave the event at 8:30, I’m walking to my car and there’s legit 5 brehs sleeping on the outside tables of a coffee shop that was still open. Breaks your heart man

And the city is spending a good amount on homelessness but not getting people into... homes? :snoop:

Shelters are dangerous so I think more people are vying to stay outside. But until there’s more affordable housing this is gonna be an issue. Fentanyl and other drugs are also hittin hard it’s a good amount of fiends out here too.
