if I were in the market I’d either get a samsung galaxy tab S2 ($299.99) or the latest model ipad ($329.99) (both are 32GB models but the galaxy tab has a microSD slot)

I have no experience w/ amazon tablets but I’ve heard/read a lot of good things about them and they are far less expensive...maybe folks can shed more light on those

I would recommend getting Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet (HD 8 version). They aren't very expensive and I would purchase it from Best Buy when they are on sale. I've had my tablet for 3 yrs now with no issues.

I went through a Microsoft Surface 2-in-1 tablet that ended up catching a virus after only 6 months of use. Before that, I had a Samsung Tablet for 8 months that went to shyt after I upgraded the SD card.

Only thing that I don't like about the Kindle tablets is that they have to be "jailbroken" to set up the Google Play store if you want to use the same apps on your phone for the Kindle. Which isn't a big deal b/c there are tutorials on YouTube to set it up on the Kindle.

ya that’s my issue w/ PC and/or android tablets...they are more susceptible to viruses/malware...ipad drawbacks are lack of a card slot to add space and dealing w/ proprietary software (itunes) and hardware (lightning cables/adapters)...a kindle might be the best of both worlds for him as a first tablet

Well the MS 2-in-1 tablet I had runs off the Windows OS and it still caught a virus (even w/Norton install). I'll never buy anything Apple overpriced hardware. I had to go through two tablets before I got a Kindle. I would tell OP to try a Kindle first.

The $299 ipad will be the best tablet deal you can get imo. Android tablets can have nice hardware, but tablet android is neglected software wise

I disagree with that b/c I know that my tablet gets updates at least every six months or more.

Doesnt matter, the OS software isnt what Im speaking on. The Android market app selection for actual tablet apps (and not blown up phone apps) pales in comparison to the iPad unfortunately

Still have my Ipad 3 from March 2012.

7 years later, still holds a solid charge, can use for 2-3 days, using 3rd party browsing app, NETFLIX nightly...

The crazy thing is... I have NOT updated my IOS since 2013 (yes, mostly all apps still function as intended).

Use it everyday.

If there was a World Guiness Records for most hours clocked on a single ipad device, guarantee I would win that award.

Shiit has literally been on every vacation/holiday as well. Pop in a bluetoof speaker and dj for my friends... house music all night mothafukin long.

Any who... to this day, I still swear by my Ipad and it's durability/build quality and consistently works.

It was the last iteration of the pad that Mr. Jobs had direct connection/involvement with... so you can see why it's a fukkin' beast to this day.

Ultimately, a standing piece of his final legacy.

Should be good with a fire hd just load Google play and it will have the freedom of any other android tablet.
I been looking into getting the 10. Looks decent. I have an old asus infinity prime that semiworks. It's on like I think jellybean so need to upgrade.
