I have an older laptop with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM in it, so I bought two 8 GB sticks of DDR3L RAM. From what I understand, if a laptop takes DDR3, the DDR3L RAM should be compatible. My computer will not accept it though.

I get errors every time I boot up; like three or four different ones and it shuts off on its own. Does anyone have ideas on how to fix this or am I just fukked?

Older Laptop and 16GB? Not likely that it will support that much.

Just drop that model number. 16GB for a laptop is usually overkill for most needs.

i5 M 430 @ 2.27 GHz, 2 Cores, 4 Logical Processors

It's a Samsung I got in 2010. Model Code: NP-R590-JSB1US. It's been struggling for a while, so I was gonna OD and put a new SSD and RAM to make it last another six years and keep up.

Did you check out crucial memory.com before you went and bought the ram?

It will tell you how much ram your particular model can take and how much each slot can take as well.
Didn't do that. fukk, I just checked and it can only take up to 8gb. :snoop:

Yep. 2x4GB Sticks. Just return the RAM. Grab 2x4GB sticks and a Hybrid Drive instead of an SSD.

I would recommend an SSD for most people, but in your case I don't think the cost is worth it on an aging laptop like that. 8GB RAM + a Hybrid Drive should give you a pretty good boost.

edit: Actually how much storage do you think you will need on an SSD? If you can get by with 128GB...go with the SSD.

Already bought the SSD. Rather pay a little extra for something faster. Didn't think it was that expensive. :manny:

I bought it third party on Amazon. I'm just gonna sell this shyt on eBay. Not the seller's fault I didn't make sure I'd be able to use it.
