so i have two hard drives in my PC..

one is 1TB and the other one is 750GB .. both HDD..

on the 750GB i had installed windows 8.1 and on the 1tb hard drive i have Windows 7 installed... they were dual boot so i could pick and choose between them..

the windows 8 partition was extremely slow and i got sick and tired of using windows 8..it just simply sucks..so i deleted the partition and tried to install windows 7 on it.. except it's giving me an error "
Setup was unable to create a new system partition"

I googled the problem and i've hit a dead end.. need some coli expertise.. i can't even boot up my Win 7 partition.. it just says there was an error booting windows 8 and that's it.

can you get into the bios and switch the boot order to get it to boot from that win7 drive?

Those are separate disks or separate partitions on the same disk? If it's the latter then there's the problem right there - for some reason you can only install the same(as primary partition) or higher versions of windows on a separate partition. So if you install windows 8 on seperate partition, you can't wipe it and install windows 7 as windows 8 overwrites boot files for both partitions. I may be wrong but that's what i remember. Try wiping and re-installing windows 8 again.

Warning

  • You must install the older operating system first, and then install the more recent operating system. If you don't (for example, if you install Windows Vista on a computer already running Windows 7), you can render your system inoperable. This can happen because earlier versions of Windows don't recognize the startup files used in more recent versions of Windows and can overwrite them.

Download Hiren Boot CD or Ultiamte Boot CD and use the windows 7/8 mini explorer to access your files and back them up, then do a format to get windows to install on it.

Unplug the 8.1 HDD. Boot up and you should be good. :patrice:

Man up and format that 8.1 :pachaha:

I've already formatted the windows 8 partition. My windows 7 drive has all my files and that's what I'm scared to lose.

And I've tried all the steps listed here except physically removing the hard drive

2. When you get to the language screen, press Shift+F10.

3.
Enter diskpart, then list disk after diskpart is loaded. 4. Enter select disk [number of the disk the partition is on].
5. Enter list partition, followed by select partition [partition number].

6. Type active.

There you go! You can now close the command prompt and reboot your computer.
