Pretty good interview. Neil always has great perspective. Randomly went to see him on stage a couple months ago. Great performance.
I actually agree with his message 
. Malcolm X said a similar thing in his autobiography, ironically. Whenever the media interviews a black person who isn't an athlete or entertainer, it's always about being black and never on general expertise or events. Till this very day this goes on.

Great interview.
This was a great interview. Not that the thought never crossed my mind, but to hear it vocalized actually makes a lot of sense. It does conjure up thought on assimilation but I think more of us should take this route, especially when dealing with white media.
I know EXACTLY what he is talking about. More than y’all can imagine. It can be exhausting mentally to have to somehow validate your status in a field that’s based solely on intelligence. There was no favors, no quota to be filled, I am here because I am that smart and that good. Matter of fact I’m better than you. No I’m not an athlete because I have an athletic build and no I am not the spokesperson for every black person in this world.
Never! Because when we get there we are better than they are, smarter than they are and can withstand the adversity better. They are there because of the constant roadblocks they put in place to attempt to deny us equal footing.

Being black should be the least interesting thing about you. I tell my kids that all the time.
Of course they would be intimidated. It was told to their ancestors from by gone days that “ be careful of thy brother for it is only for a finite time shall thee be allowed to persecute him”.

I deff feel his message being in STEM. In public I'm who I am, just because I don't talk, dress, or act like "the good ones" doesn't mean I'm not educated, an expert in my field and probably pay more taxes than the folks that are judging me. That's why I don't shy away from my roots like some others might do when they "made it". Nah, bruh just because you see a black man wearing some baggy pants, Jordans and some jeweler doesn't mean they can't be a doctor/engineer/executive, etc.
