Never Forget is a thread series where you and I - your host, Taadow - revisit hits that have been pushed into the attic of our minds. Today, we look at DJ Kool - "Let Me Clear My Throat".
"B-B-BUT WAS IT REALLY A HIT??"
Billboard Hot 100 Peak: #30
Billboard Hot R&B Singles Peak: #21
Billboard Rhythmic Top 40 Peak: #28
Australia (ARIA): #50
Canada Dance (RPM): #11
Netherlands (Dutch Top 40): #7
New Zealand (Recorded Music NZ): #19
Sweden (Sverigetopplistan): #46
UK Singles Chart: #8
AFTERMATH:
This chit was a monster. It's still a monster. Why? Because this chit is hip-hop, nicca.
It was straight up rockin'-the-party, call-and-response, break sampling, fun music.
Perhaps it helped by it being live, and you can hear how the crowd was so into it.
This cut provided balance right at the dawn of the era where rappers were trying to
rock platinum and try not to mess up their nice clothes. But you were gonna get up when
this came on.
Maaan, we could really use one of these now.
