Never Forget is a thread series where you and I - your host, Taadow - revisit some hits that many have put in the attic of their minds. Today, John Forte - "Ninety Nine (Flash The Message)".

"B-B-BUT WAS IT REALLY A HIT??"

Billboard Hot 100 Peak: #59
Billboard Hot R&B Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks Peak: #26
Billboard Hot Rap Singles Peak: #2

AFTERMATH:

- No bullchit: this has gotta be one of the best cypher beats of all-time.

- This was voted #1 video of the year on BET in 1998.

- There's no tellin' how big John Forte woulda been if he didn't go to jail.
He was supposed to be the next generation of Refugee Camp, and he was the illest of them.
He was in the convo to have next with DMX, Pun, Canibus, Nore and them niccas.
If not for him going to jail, maybe Wyclef doesn't have time to work with Canibus. Hmm...

I upped this because I thought I should've put "imo" after this,
but nah.

I think I was right - John Forte was the illest rapper in the Refugee Camp.

Thats top secret information
Its the beat and the chorus not neccessarily the lyrics. Plus the essence of anything Fugees related was a hot item spring 98, example Ghetto Superstar which was real big just months prior.

This song and video gave promise but the album was a dissapointment. Matter fact all the Wyclef assisted projects Canibus, Pras and John Forte were big flops that year....The irony is that Lauryn wasnt fukking with Clef and did the exact opposite by becoming a mega star with her album.
