Never Forget is a thread series where you and I - your host, Taadow - revisit some hits that we may have stored in the attic of our minds. Today, WC - "Better Days" b/w "Cheddar".
"B-B-BUT WAS IT REALLY A HIT??"
Billboard Hot 100 Peak: #64
Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Peak: #33 / #42
AFTERMATH:
Surprisingly, "Better Days" is Dubs' second biggest hit of-all time...but that may be because
"Just Clownin'" is his biggest, and it was the single before this one. I didn't remember "Better Days"
getting that much "non-urban" airplay, but I can see it with the easy Frankie Beverly sample, the
message, and Jon B. on the hook...
...but then it made more sense when I saw that the B-side was "Cheddar".
"Cheddar" was on the low one of the bridges between the West and the South, especially during
the late 90's "fucc the bullchit, let's get some money" era. Southern producers started getting a lot
of West love after this cut came out (for better or for worse).
Also for better or worse, this is when it seems like Dub kinda got pigeonholed as the
"just do the C-Walk" Guy, and people didn't really appreciate his raps as much. Ah well.
