Just so you all know, this is my favorite song of mine. All facts. I began writing it in the regional jail in Stafford, VA in 2009, locked up for a home invasion robbery of someone who owed me RACKS. Started in jail during that bid, where I eventually caught the 4 years. I was anxious, still going back and forth to court, wondering if my co-defendant would tell on me (he did).
Verse One was written THEN, where I talk about a PREVIOUS case in 06. I used to edit and re edit songs so much, originally it had two other verses, that I wasn't feeling and continued to work on.
After I was sentenced in '09, after being in jail almost 2 years, I landed at Coffeewood Correctional Center in Mitchell's, VA in 2010. I continued to work on the song along with the other songs & albums I had written. I used to spin the track on the yard spitting & refining this verse for a select few of my nikkas, all doing hard time, and tell em I was gonna DO this shyt when I got out & leave the streets alone for good.
I came home in 2012 with a degree in Business Administration & began school to pursue my Bachelor's. I created a Personal Training company in the meantime while I looked for work. Being a VIOLENT felon, especially with robbery and gang charges on your record...You can pretty much hang it up. Over 300 interviews. I'ma just leave that one alone.
In 2013, I began recording with a Army Reserve/Audio Engineer cat who stupidly, went and got himself locked up for 2 years, even though I used to drop JEWELS on him during our sessions, and my ENTIRE ALBUM (The Dark Ages) was about the prison experience and it's effect on the human psyche. Smh. To a degree, The A.V. LP is as well. I lost ALL of my work on his computers and hard drives, when he got locked up.
I only completed half the album. I put so much into it, and so much other shyt was going on at the time, I just said fukk rap. I quit after that. That was 2013. I even posted the OG version of the song in the OP, on the Coli back then before I quit. nikkas probably forgot:
I began rapping again, as everyone knows, during my 80 day vacation last summer at Camden County Jail in Jersey. This is where the idea for The A.V. LP was born. I decided to keep the song, add to it, and that's where most of Verse 3 came from. I added even more when my boy passed away during my recording of "2K" a little over a month ago. I was getting ready to lay "Pain x Death" and was hype because 2K came out dope. Right as I stepped in the booth (on my mother) I get a text, saying "Boogie is dead." Left the studio immediately.
I paid my condolences in ways other than attending the funeral. I don't do funerals ever since I saw my aunt in Detroit (a spitting image of my living mother) in the casket the day before Mothers Day in 2004. She had 13 kids and was killed in a murder-suicide by her ex-con boyfriend. She looked like my mom's when I walked up.
Haven't been to one since. So I didn't go to my boy funeral or wake, but his family really appreciated what I did do. I also decided to honor his name by adding it at the very end of the 3rd verse and closing the song with a tribute to him. This is the intro to my album. It's coming in August after the videos.
