Three Black Women Have Been Found Dead This Year in New England, Here’s Why Some Fear a Serial Killer is At Large

Three Black women have been found dead in the New England area, sparking concerns that a serial killer might be on the loose and targeting women of color, per The Root.

On Sunday (June 8), the remains of 21-year-old Adriana Suazo of Boston were found in the woods of Milton, Massachussetts.

Suazo's death comes after two Black Connecticut women were found dead in March. 34-year-old Jasmine Wilkes was found deceased in Edgewood Park, and 59-year-old Denise Leary was found dead in New Haven.

Other recent deaths include 56-year-old Michele Romano in Rhode Island, 35-year-old Page Fannon, who was found dead in Connecticut's Norwalk River, 45-year-old Meggan Meredith in Massachusetts, and 58-year-old Suzanne Wormser, whose remains were found in a suitcase in Connecticut. Wormser's case is the only one with a suspect in custody.

Along with the known deaths, unidentified remains were found in Killingly, Connecticut, and two bodies were found in the Seekonk and Connecticut Rivers. Authorities also discovered a human skull in a wooded area in Plymouth, Massachussetts.

Though authorities said there were no obvious signs of trauma, Suazo's family and other locals believe her death could be connected to a serial killer on the loose. Several Facebook groups have been created to link police investigations, missing persons reports, and the remains of women recently found dead.

“I just want to know the truth about what happened to her,” Melanie Pizarro, Suazo’s sister, said. “I’m not accusing anyone, but her circumstances are suspicious. She was with someone either when she died or before.”

New England authorities said they don't believe the cases are linked based on forensic evidence. However, the Massachusetts State Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Suazo's death.
