Only really will protect against smaller nuclear nations and threats, basically won’t work vs Russia, China, France or any country that can launch hundreds of warheads. Honestly, in that case we’d send our payload of nukes to satisfy Mutually Assured Destruction.

ive never understood this. i know its not rooted in any sort of logic, but its wild how many fly over state residents hate the major california cities. especially when they benefit from its success and often times send its homeless over

Like someone pointed out in the OP, it’s a project that has been in the works going back nearly 10 years ago. It’s something that is serious and Trump is trying to advertise.

Problem is Trump saying it’s the end-all, be-all of missile defense systems when in reality pulling off defense on that scale costs zillions of dollars and exponentially better tech than what we have now. This is meant to stop some one off rocket fired by a smaller nation or a warhead fired by accident. It’s not meant to intercept swarms of rockets and volleys like a real, legit conflict with a Super Power would be like. This is yet another thing Trump is hyping up that his base will eat up and that he’ll use as political ammo about how much he cares about protecting this country.

Like if you look at Robert Kennedy Jr.’s tweet about it, that’s exactly the kind of political ammo they’re going for.

In a real nuclear conflict with a Super Power this thing will be as useful as used toilet paper. At that point the best thing would be to launch our arsenal and say goodbye to loved ones as we wait for all the nukes to land on both sides.
