I don't know, the golden era was what it was organically, no one asked if it was the beginning of a new golden era and the conditions that led to it can't be duplicated. Part of the reason it was called that era is because the music was making such an impact on a commercial level and was becoming the most popular genre in music; I don't think Hip Hop has the same impact culturally like it did then because the music is influenced by so many other genres now and the music doesn't make the commercial impact it once did across the board. Some dudes sell yeah but in that era, SO MANY cats sold records whether it be gold or platinum or multi platinum.

They were setting trends in fashion rather than following them and everyone wanted to outdo their last record or the next MC..that spirit of competition now isn't the same which isn't a diss, just an observation. The music has become less about rebellion and more about fitting in. Grant it there are MCs who have substance in their music so it's not a dark age by any means but I don't think it will replicate that era because the world is just different and the country is in a different place than it was then; that era was it was because of more than just music.

Lets get this straight for historical reasons.. The mid to late eighties was the actual Golden Era on record..
The 90's was the best era...but its not historically called The Golden Era.

This Era now is up and coming but Golden?? We'll see..

None of these dudes have dropped a classic album though :patrice:

Not to be one of those trapped in the 90's nikkas but when you had The Chronic,Doggystyle,Ready To Die,MATW,Illmatic,,Tha Infamous,ATLines,RD,IWW etc..all dropping within a 3 year span, that's a golden era..and those are just some of the main albums..not countin all the regional and underground shyt. Aside from Drake most of these new cats are just putting their spin on 90's music and not even coming close.

This! Do you young nikkas even know why the golden era was called that? There were MULTIPLE classics dropping each year. Just take 1996 for example:

Reasonable doubt
Aquemeni
IWW
Illadelph Half Life
AEOM
Makeveli
Muddy Waters
Iron Man
Hell on Earth

We will NEVER get a year like this during this era because there's not enough quality emcees out to produce this much classic material!

I gotta agree with that too. And these weren't mixtapes, they were actual albums, sometimes within the same week or within a week of each other.

This current era is good and while it will never be how it was you got cats like Kendrick Drake Wale Cole and others who make good music for the most part. Along with a lot of slept on underground cats like Action Bronson Schoolboy Q etc. Then you still got the old vets like Nas who will hit you with a classic here and there. I think hip hop is in a very good place right now as far as some of the music being made is concerned.

lol the only way there will ever be another Golden Era, is if Hip Hop reinvents itself again. Because that was what was happening before.

lets be honest, drake is one of those fad rappers who start off on fire then eventually fade away popularity wise after some years like nelly, dmx, and i hate to say it but 50..

kendrick is the only one of them nikkas who i feel will definitely still be around 10 years from now.. j cole is so average all across the board its amazing, one thing i can say is theyre providing music with substance to mainstream and radio as opposed to how its been for the past few years but lets not settle just because things are getting a little better.. theres nothing golden about this era yet, let it organically happen instead of trying to force it

Nah, but seriously, Kendrick is dope as fukk and deserves his position. nikkas need to start including Wale's name in the mix though with the leaders of the new school movement. That nikkas resume is impeccable at this point. Mixtape About Nothing, Back to the Feature, More About Nothing, work on both Self Made joints, 11/1/11 Theory, Ambition, Folarin and now this new era near classic The Gifted. Hell, even Attention Deficit (his only misstep imo) had some joints on it. He's elevated himself into that top grouping if you ask me.

Man Drake is gay. Most of the people that I see checking for this lames music is bytches and nikkas that post on this site (and random white people who only follow trends)

Maybe. But bar for bar he is miles ahead of most of the rappers ppl Stan here, and I'm not even like his music like that.

This man knows what he is talking about. Historically the Golden era was before most of your so called classics were dropped. mid to late 80s
