TWO NEW PS4 MODELS LEAK, ONE WITH 1TB HARD DRIVE
No external redesign, however.

Sony will apparently release two new PS4 models, one of which comes with a 1TB hard drive.

That's according to certification documents spotted on the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) site and picked up by DualShockers.

The new models, numbered CUH-1215A and CUH-1215B, are variations of the same model, with the difference essentially being the hard drive size. While the CUH-1215A variant has a 500GB HDD, the CUH-1215B version has a 1TB hard drive.

It doesn't appear that either of the new models will mark a full redesign of the console, like we saw with the PS3 Slim and PS3 Super Slim, but rather this is about the internal components changing. To that end, one of the most notable changes comes to the power source - where it was 250 watts, it's now 230 watts. Similarly, amperage has also changed from 2.5-1.15 amps to 2.3-0.95 amps.

The last change is a reduction in weight from 2.8 kg to 2.5 kg, though the external dimensions of the box remain the same. What led to this reduction is unclear though, with E3 just around the corner, it's likely we won't have long to wait for any big announcements.

Well, it's now totally official. Sony is rolling out a 1TB PlayStation 4 that it's calling the “Ultimate Player 1TB Edition.” More like ultimate storage, am I right?
As of writing, the 1TB version is announced only for “select Europe and PAL territories.” It will launch on July 15 and Sony's PlayStation Blog says to “check with your local retailer” for pricing.
Sony hasn't yet released a full spec sheet, but this likely matches up with the other CUH-1200 series consoles, which are slightly lighter and use less energy.

PS4 CUH-1200 model also has mechanical buttons, smaller LED light
Sony announced a new PS4 model this morning. It weighs a bit less and uses less energy but another neat feature has been revealed.
The system’s buttons for powering on or ejecting a disc are now mechanical, not electro-static.
In addition to this, the LED light that illuminates the system when on or in stand by is now much shorter so it won’t light up the whole system. These are minor albeit it nice changes.
The mechanical buttons are particularly welcomed for those have a habit of accidentally turning the system on when they aren’t trying to!

So this is the second time they attempt the whole "electro-static" button thing and end up giving up on it with the second gen console.

[Update] 'No Plans To Announce' 1 TB PlayStation 4 In North America

PS41TBEU-610.jpg

Update: Sony has responded to our inquiry about a 1 TB PlayStation 4 model for North America. "We have no plans to announce at this time," a representative told us via email. While this doesn't shut the door completely, it does rule out an announcement today.
Original Story:
Following Microsoft’s announcement of a new 1 TB Xbox One, Sony has confirmed a PlayStation 4 model with upgraded storage. Right now, the new version is slated for Europe, but there’s every reason to suspect it will make its way to North America.
This SKU appears to be the same as the 500 GB model, with a single controller, earbud, and cabling. The only difference seems to be the hard drive size.
The PlayStation 4 Ultimate Player 1 TB Edition will arrive in Europe on July 15. We’ve reached out to Sony for details on other territories. We’ll update should we receive a response.

Our TakeGiven the size of game installations this generation, 500 GB hard drives were a compromise likely made to keep costs down at launch. Chances are, if you’ve had an Xbox One or PS4 since release, you’ve either lamented the relatively small storage or dealt with it via upgrade. This move gives new users a bit more runway before having to deal with this issue, but chances are it’ll come up eventually.
