Boys and Men in Greater Boston: Challenges in Education, Employment and Health
In many areas, boys and men—especially those from lower-income and Black and Latino communities—face significant challenges.
The flagship university, UMass Amherst, only had a population of 4% Black students. You take out immigrants and athletes and that number shrinks even further. It was more black graduate students of both genders than black male undergraduates who were not immigrants or athletes.
Not saying that at all; in Mass there is a large immigrant population, and a lot of the Black students who are getting access to the top tier colleges are descendants of them. So even the representation being shown on campus is not a reflection of the states demographics. Are the children of immigrants not supposed to do well in high school and attend college ?
I understand you, and get your overall point. Not saying that at all; in Mass there is a large immigrant population, and a lot of the Black students who are getting access to the top tier colleges are descendants of them. So even the representation being shown on campus is not a reflection of the states demographics.
I guess what I am saying is that African American boys are being left even further behind than the rest of other black and brown boys.
Springfield MA is like 20 miles away from UMass and is like 25-30% black; why do less than 100 black students in all 4 classifications (seniors juniors etc) call Springfield home?
I worked as a residence director up there so I saw the discrepancy firsthand
I have no data but I put some of the blame on the redpill, manosphere, alt right brainrot that boys/men are ingesting.
