Honetly I don't think trains would ever be popular. We are too conditioned to want to get there as fast as possible. I looked at taking a train from Monaco to Valencia spain it was 19 hours with three transfers. I was like naw we will just fly in an hour and a half. I can see them being more popular in the northeast coridor, but outside of that the distances are much larger than europe. But when train tickets are similar to flights......people are going to fly instead

if trains wouldn't be popular they wouldn't spend millions lobbying against it.

Also good luck driving from DC to Boston in 7 hours.

DC is only 38 miles from Baltimore so I assume that part of the drive should only be a 40 minute trip too.

28 miles on bwi parkway if you really nice with it

:troll:

regional rails take priority over Amtrak. The fact that Amtrak is hoed out at every step is sad.

This country is trash.

This seems like a big announcement about an updated fleet, no more no less.

Slightly more capacity and better interior (smoother ride, outlets between seats, more legroom), 10mph faster. For me, only shaves 30 minutes off the Boston to NYC ride. It’s an update but not like a huge revolutionary new system.
We are on an opposite “build it and they will come” philosophy with high speed rail compared to AI where they will force it down our throats with unwanted data centers even with no profits.

The trains aren’t the problem. It’s the rails and their ownership/location

Nobody is going to build the kinds of rails they will need without the population pushing it by buying tickets even when it’s not at full performance.

The Truth
I was actually going to take a train a few months ago but saw the prices were almost as much as a flight and it would take 2 days to get where I was going and damn near 2 days to get back…

I had a rental since my car was being worked on and just drove. Took about 8-9 hours but was cheaper than both and not too bad of a drive. Just long af :beli: .

Barely spent shyt on the way there and back though.
