These dudes rapping nowadays don't care about NY like that. The cosign helps, but it doesn't make or break the artists.
The throne is in Hollywood.
They want that A-list appeal.

Will made it A list, Cube is trying, Tip is trying and Luda is present.
Jay n Kanye are there rubbing shoulders with new types, all off the strength of that A-list aura.

Until the hip hop is surgically removed from Hollywood dreaming, the rap is gonna stay watered down.
Dudes too worried about the next step to put out their best yet.

Kendrick can keep ringing the bell, but dudes too busy seeing the lifestyle to hear it.

Hip hop doesn't have kings, it has presidents.
Ninjas get a few terms, and the smartest ones retire, and do other things(think Jay with his ventures, Puff as well, Dre etc).
They might come back to the scene and drop new stuff, but they're not ruling it. They come back and give cosigns to the new dudes, ala Bill Clinton coming out in favor of Barak in 2012.

Some dudes don't get it though, hence the 50's, Ja Rules, LL Cool J's still trying to run it, when they should be looking to other avenues.
Nobody is on top forever, so make the most of it while you're there.

The young dudes, like Cole, Wale, Drake, Sean, Kendrick etc are all senators of varying degrees of popularity and influence.
They want that top spot, and some are clearly closer to the oval office than others.

And i don't hate NY. But the truth of it is it flat out doesn't matter anywhere near as much as it used to.
