They did it together :troll:

I'm sure Queens was wild. A lot of scary spots once everyone got super patriotic and wanted someone to blame for everything (like now with Asians as a result of Covid). My high school barely had white people in it, let alone middle eastern people. I noticed that more in college in Boston than I did here.

Part of why the Bronx experience was different than other places is because people were generally still too scared to come here, even for Yankee games. We were kinda detached from everything for reasons I mentioned earlier. 2977 people died. 150 of them were from here. We took the news of Flight 87that crashed 2 months later as hard we did 9/11.

Man I forgot all about this. I remember hearing about it when it first happened but nothing else. Just read up on it and man :snoop: human error. Also there were people on the plane who escaped the WTC on 9/11 only to die like that :mjcry:

Keep in mind NY was a bad place to be in the 70s and 80s. Parts of the ghettos looked like the third world or like all the abandoned buildings neighborhoods in detroit now. Also WTC got attacked in 1993 so terrorism wasn't anything new. But after 2001 people started taking it more seriously. It changed aviation security and you definitely started noticing more security in high rises.

Another Bronx poster touched on it well enough for me.

I want to share my Pakistan friends perspective. He said it was horrible for him in his neighborhood in Queens. People were assaulting Sikhs, Indians, Pakistan, and all those ethnicities and nationalities. Most people didn't know what or where the fukk Afghanistan was. Difference between Hindus and Muslims.
His families business would have random attacks on their store fronts. Scared to walk alone , people bullying them.

i'm in my mid forties and lived half my life in NYC.
born and raised in the BX and lived in BK for 6 years as an adult.
i could see the entire Manhattan skyline from our apartment.
the security infrastructure put in place by NYPD makes some landmarks
look like Forward Operating Bases in a warzone. i was in Manhattan last
month and were trying to get onto the BK bridge. there was a winding path
that led up to it but walking past that was a tunnel closed off to traffic with
barricades, cruisers, cops and what not. that shyt is all over NYC now.
then they started busting these out:

when i saw those i was like "oh, hell no!"

the increase in the number of police is staggeringly noticeable just walking around.
don't even get me started on the undercover units driving around. when i was a kid
they drove Crown Vics strictly. now they are in ice cream trucks and taxis. luckily i
missed the stop and frisk fukkery because i lived in a pretty nice (white) neighborhood
in BK and drove rather than walked.

i had a Sikh as a neighbor who lived below me in college.
he kept our apartment warm in the winter because he had
his heat up so high. shortly after 9/11 he was ghost for like
a week. me and my roommate saw him, dapped him up and
asked where he was. turns out his uncle had a gas station
down south somewhere. some idiot shot him and set him
on fire.

i used to work with Pakistanis and people stayed asking if
i was related to them. i can pass for a bunch of races other
than asian or white so i was like whatever. when i was living in
Buffalo, i was verbally assaulted twice because i was mistaken
for being muslim/middle eastern/arab. one time a car full of white
boys drove by and yelled "fukk you Taliban!" that shyt confused the
fukk out of me. then another time some drunk dude got in my face
and said "America will fukk you up!" also confusing until i realized
this guy is just racist and ignorant.
