NYC still lives in the "word is bond" era where a cosign is all they expect to suffice.

A$AP Rocky gets love in NYC. Artists like French get MORE love because they make catchier music and every now and then will throw you some throwback NY style music.

NY fans and rappers just have no idea what they really want, so the artists they pick out, they just expect fans to ride with them just because they said so. It doesn't work that way., especially when fans don't ride with them like that.

Also NY nikkas are hypocrites. They'll swear they don't fukk with Ferg but then the beat to Work drops and they'll immediately be like "Coogi down to the socks like I'm Big Poppa BABYYYYYYYYYYY " They'll swear they don't dig French like that but they know every French song. They'll bytch about how they want rap to sound like, but any DJ Mustard beat drops, we'll all pretend we're from the Bay like Jeezy.

The closest thing NY got to a NY star is Meek Mill from Philly.

And even so, that's 3 super underground people. You're acting like Rocky jumped on a wave that was in everyone's face and people were already doing.

Rocky/Yams jumped on a sound that NO ONE was looking at/thinking of. Then looked at the errors in that sound and made the execution better. That's smart as fukk.

you can take influence and STILL create your own lane and do something that sounds fresh and different.

having production that sounds like other artists are using don't mean you're not doing your own thing with that production.

lil b?! rocky raps over clams production and actually does it justice because he got an ear for beats and knows how to flow on them.

If nothing else, this is the fundamental difference between Lil B and Rocky.

He doesn't have much of a new york swag. The closest he's got is his fashion shtick, which the average NY'er really doesn't give a fukk about. With guys like French and Max, they had an organic style to them. French had a southern swagg since like forever. He also mixes it up. Asap Rocky, not so much.
