I was listening to a youtube rant on basketball and the youtber said something that caught my ear.

"I'm a New Yorker I wish we had that type of development in New York we used to. We had gauchos, riverside, aim high, young life, mousy etc

We don't have that, kids don't want to play basketball in New York anymore they want to be rappers or they want to be gang members, They don’t want to play basketball anymore it’s not cool."

Any truth to this? Is this no longer a familiar scene at NY?

Street Basketball isn’t what it used to be.
But isn’t that everywhere in the country?

With technology now, kids barely go outside as it is.

We used to play sports all day on the weekends and all day during the summers.

I haven’t seen anybody run the full in years.
It’s all camps now and traveling teams. Corny. I mean I get it. But still. It’s wack.

I’m not sure about the rapper statement but it’s a fact that kids in the city today just dont hoop as much as we did back in the days. The parks are empty now, Even big-time time tournaments like the Rucker is usually empty now.

Street Basketball is dead in nyc...not like 90s or 00s

It's not even streetball. New York had some of the best schools and programs.

Black males really need to stop with this goofy ass shyt that thinking the only ways to make it in life is sports or being a rapper; or if all else fails resorting to crime:hhh:. shyt is pathetic and embarrassing :francis:. nikkas better start focusing on STEM or Legal entrepreneurship if yall want black people to make it in this world.

I know when I taught younger grades (NYC) they “all” wanted to be rappers OR basketball players…having a normal decent everyday career/job wasn’t on their radar at all…I did my best to expose them to different career options…in some instances it paid off…I know of a handful of students who became teachers or now work in a school system in some capacity

This is true all over the country. At least nikkas who are 5'9 150 are no longer delusional enough to thinkthey will be the next AI like in my generation. Its sad that rap is so trash now, nobody is delusional for thinking they could make it:francis:
California NBA Talent is at an All-time high though.

jalen green might be the best player in 6 years. Evan Mobley from cali too.

Well for one, most NBA players have to be tall and most people aren’t that tall and will never make it tot the league let alone college ball

Second, NBA and college recruiting today isn’t a low income thing. There are expensive camps, programs, etc. that you need money to get into. Most of the young talent today come from at least middle class homes. Key word, homes. Not apartments.

And third, NBA isn’t as popular as it used to be and the rules result in a pretty lackluster style of play. Also none of the NBA teams in New York have done well in the last two decades.
