New York City is known for its beautiful skyline, but down on street level, the city isn't as clean cut as its steel silhouette.

A new report by cleaning service BusyBee found that the Big Apple was the dirtiest city in the U.S.

The report ranked 40 urban areas in the U.S. using data from the Environmental Protection Agency, the American Housing Survey and the U.S. Census Bureau.

It determined a city's dirtiness based on a combination of elements including litter, population density, pollution and pests.

The Big Apple (pictured above) is followed on the list by Los Angeles, Riverside-San Bernardino, Chicago and Philadelphia

New York City came in first thanks mostly to its population density, pests and litter.

New York City was followed on the list by Los Angeles, Riverside-San Bernardino in California, Chicago, Philadelphia and Phoenix.

Compared to other cities, the city that never sleeps actually has relatively low pollution.

Los Angeles had the worst nitrogen dioxide air pollution, followed by Denver, Riverside-San Bernardino, Phoenix and Atlanta.

Nitrogen dioxide is a harmful chemical that can make it hard to breathe.

Pittsburgh was the worst for particle matter air pollution, followed by Riverside-San Bernardino, Austin, Phoenix and Seattle.

Particle pollution are harmful substances that find a way into the bloodstream after being inhaled.

The cleanest of the 40 cities ranked on the list were Memphis, Raleigh, Tucson, Orlando and Jacksonville.

The other cities are barely cities though. NYC has more people working and living there than prob the 1/2 those cities combined.

NYC is filthy though.

Ground in dirt from decades ago still on the street. I have NEVER seen a street sweeper in NYC only the outer boroughs and that is rare too.

Everybody knows this :mjlol:

I don’t take the MTA often, but when I do my face is constantly like this :scust:

It’s bad when you’re afraid to sit down on a seat. Can’t touch any railings, gotta push open doors with your forearm and shyt. That’s literally the tip of the iceberg. I get really agitated by the lack of cleanliness in the city.
