We were listening to all coasts really, but specifically Max B? I hadn't really heard of him like that.

Max was getting play in NYC and CT just like how Boosie and Gucci were getting love in most Southern and Midwest states…

Big Mike and Lazy K were working with Max too

Nah. You can’t find a single video of people in the South EVER not knowing every word at a Boosie show. I was at Boosie’s first show post-prison (which was in an arena).

But 99% of the crowd at the Monica concert didn’t know Max B’s songs. Meanwhile, I guarantee they played and knew some Boosie at that same concert😂.

Max has only really had a internet niche fanbase that doesn’t translate nearly as much in real life compared to people like Boosie.

I mean he kinda right. There is nikkas from the south like myself who love new York rap.

But for the majority of nikkas I've been around from the south, they aren't listening to NY rap like that.

When I was in the military, if u got 5 nikkas from the south in a room and they picking the music, almost no east coast rap will be played besides classic shyt everyone knows. nikkas ain't throwing on that Westside Gunn like that. Out of them 5 nikkas 3 might ask who the hell is Westside Gunn

And I love Westside Gunn and Griselda

There's a significant percentage of Southerners that listen to absolutely no Non-South Hiphop. Especially them OG screw heads in TX and OG Louisiana. I'm a DJ down here in Louisiana. We was West Coast all the way in the 90s. Spice 1, Too short, e40, Brotha Lynch... Many nights you probably won't even hear Future, 50, Kendrick, Kanye, PAC, Jay Z, BIG, NAS, 50, TI, Jeezy and I'm not talking about a young crowd either. I mostly do 30 and up parties. A lot of NY songs hit down here when they dropped but really never became many timeless classics. Sometimes I'll sneak in a "Oh boy" or "This is How We Do" and they love it and bop, but there's not many like that.

I will say, guys in there 50s grew up listening to it all. NY to Oakland. But the 45 and belows here, grew up on PAC, No Limit, Cash Money, UGK, Boosie, Webbie. I love the East because I moved to VA in 2000, DC in 04. I have to sneak in a little East Coast and Reggae. People in New Orleans loved NYC and Philly of late. Big cities like NO, Dallas, even Shreveport back in the day hosted big NY artist concerts. A lot of these small cities and towns have no love for the East, never had a reason to listen to.

Another issue, a lot of us grew up with resentment for the East Coast, bcuz BET didn't really play many of our videos. Pimp C shared the same resentment.

Growing up in Louisiana in the 90s, outside of Biggie, New York Rappers might as well been British Rappers. They were so different and non-relatable to us. But BIG had a few songs of smooth classic beats they we liked. But all those old hard Wu-Tang, Eazy Mo Bee, Mobb Deep beats, we couldn't get with at all.

Nas - Hate me now was Epic I remember. And Nas - Street Dreaming Remix ft R.Kelly was fire too.

every time kendrick comes to texas he sells out be it sxsw or stadiums or intimate settings

Not completely defending his take because the south always had a gang of NY rappers they respected heavy but the south never had as much issue with the WEST because our lifestyles are very similar as far as upbringings. Being raised in actual houses/duplexes etc instead of tall housing projects or having the subway train system etc. So with rappers from the west it didn't seem as alien as certain NY rappers. And I love east coast rap but I grew up in the south and know the energy of folk real well here as far as growing up and observing how they felt about other regions.
