Subway Stabbing Victim Can't Sue NYPD For Failing To Save Him

A man who was brutally stabbed by Brooklyn subway slasher Maksim Gelman two years ago had his negligence case against the city dismissed in court yesterday, despite the fact that two transit officers had locked themselves in a motorman's car only a few feet from him at the time of the attack.

Gelman stabbed Joseph Lozito in the face, neck, hands and head on an uptown 3 train in February 2011, after fatally stabbing four people and injuring three others in a 28-hour period. Lozito, a father of two and an avid martial arts fan, was able to tackle Gelman and hold him down, and Gelman was eventually arrested by the transit officers. Lozito sued the city, arguing that the police officers had locked themselves in the conductor's car and failed to come to his aid in time.

Waste of money. Cameras + 1 or 2 cops/train are enough.

People ain't wildin' like that trying to get to work/get home.​

It wouldn't bother me. 99.9% of us are just trying to get from point a to b without issue so it wouldn't be an issue for most people. The system would be better off with cops/ security at the turnstiles like Jerseys Path trains. You keep crazies who usually dont pay from entering the system in the first place.

Would you only make it for a specific time period each day?

*This thread was inspired because I just got back from DR today, and there was a mentally disturbed person on the Air Train continuously harassing these 3 young Danish(?) women from JFK all the way until we got to Jamaica Station. For reference, he wasn't flirting with them at all. He was saying that they shouldn't be talking to each other because they're too young. And that he should kill them, and then kill their parents, and then kill their country. Now... These were just words, and he didn't act on any of it, but...c'mon
The Metro train I took in DR had one guard in each train car. Granted, they only have two lines and a train only has three cars, but that doesn't mean that it can't be scaled up to fit New York standards (or possibly another city).
