Just got my nexus 5x with my project Fi sim card and I have to admit, in the (very) short term, i'm really feeling this phone and don't miss iOS at all.

My Fi service is better than my Verizon service on my iPhone 6 Plus with 3 bars of LTE to 2. Call quality is seamless switching from wifi calls to either sprint or t-mobile. My wife couldn't tell when I left the wifi. I'll try to send more updates as I have more time with the phone.

My questions to the android die hards are what are the essential apps to download and what are some cool things I can do with all this freedom?

so they send you a sim card? i wondered how that invite thing would work

google search "project fi request invite"

after you request the invite they'll send you an e-mail allowing you to order your sim card. It could take days or weeks depending on where you live (It didn't take me long at all).

After you get your invite you can order the sim card for free. That too can take days or weeks depending on how backed up they are. It took two weeks to receive mine. If you don't put your invite to use it will be taken away (not forever but you'll have to request another one, and wait) so I would order a sim card no matter if you plan to use the service or not. Again, it comes at no cost to you, you don't even pay for shipping).

While ordering your sim card it'll give you the option to use your current number or wait on the sim card to make a decision. I waited. You'll also have to put in your credit card information to sign up and select the amount of data you plan on using but you won't be billed for anything until you activate your sim card. If you never use it you'll never be charged.

if you're interested remember there aren't many phones that support fi's network. The nexus 6, 5x, 6P and the new moto x (unofficially).
