So according to the article the exclusivity is over in 2021.

Best case scenario - a 2k rep is NFL's ear and showing how crappy Madden has been and actually hurts the NFL's "brand". They have to know that 2k's presentation is miles ahead anything EA has done.

Like someone else said maybe they're just testing the waters to get some animations down or whatever so they can have a full sim in 2022 when the contract expires
