- Pseudophedrine (Sudafed, Sudogest) - a popular nasal decongestant commonly used to treat symptoms of seasonal allergies and the common cold. It is available without a prescription in most states. It is also the "D" in popular allergy medicines like Claritin-D, Allegra-D, and Zyrtec-D. It is allowed by the NFL only if prescribed by a team physician.
- Diuretics like hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Microzide), furosemide (Lasix), and hydrochlorothiazide + triamterine (Dyazide). Diuretics are commonly prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and several conditions that cause fluid retention. They do not enhance performance but they can act as masking agents that increase urine output, diluting the concentration of other banned substances.
Hydrochlorothiazide is the 10th most-commonly prescribed medication in the US. - Finasteride (Propecia) - used to treat male-pattern baldness.
- Probenecid (Probalan) - used to treat gout.
- Albuterol (Proventil) - a commonly-prescribed inhaled medication used to treat asthma.
- Methylphenidate (Concerta, Ritalin) - used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
