Anyone who has studied the impact of media on the general public will understand how massive this is towards moving the narrative away from white supremacy.
Yup. For years i'd rant about it in the film room when it came to the depictions and defamation of black & African characters. As an aside, people would complain about how Hollywood bends over to cater to Chinese requirements because white execs were slaves to that extra 200-300 million they could get if China chose to open their theaters for them.
For me, i always saw that type of flex as a grand opportunity for replication... imagine a Nigeria (which has roughly 215m Nigerians, compared to USA's roughly 205m white Americans) having their shyt together and their standard of beauty, being on some:"Yo, we hear you knocking, yea we know you could make 100s of millions if we played yo shyt here (of course, we'd take 50-60% cut...
but if you want us to play yo shyt... we have certain... expectations.
"
Execs would be scrambling to put more black american and black british actors in their big budget flicks to appease such a market. Granted, we're so far away from that with all the ish going on in Nigeria that movie theaters is the last thing on their mind. But that type of ideal state + collaboration with africans/african-americans would have everyone eating good.
