It doesn't come with a charger so make sure you pick one up. You should buy a decent sized memory card as well. As for games, Zelda and Mario are always solid choices. Zelda a link between two worlds and Mario 3D are really good.

Just get any game made by Nintendo. I think Gamestop has a New 3DS bundle (not XL) preloaded with Animal Crossing. I know it's Gamestop lol but it comes with a cute custom faceplate and everything.

Yeah this was a huge deal at launch, especially for people trading in their old 3ds for the new one. You have to trade it in with the charger and then buy a new charger for the new3ds. Its stupid. The excuse was that Nintendo expects their fans to already have chargers and that way they would keep prices down.

The 3d from the 3ds might be an issue for her eyes and the 2ds is way less fragile compared to a 3dsxl and easier on the hands.
Oh yeah if you get one under firmware 9.02 you can hack it so you can play back up games using one memory card(bought a 32gb one)
