this loss is good for Nintendo.

You're right in a way. Nintendo is known for doing some crazy shyt to turn things around when they're in a corner like this.

While everyone knows Nintendo for it's predictability, it's their unpredictability that set's them apart from the other console makers. With the way the Wii U has turned out, expect Nintendo to get mighty desperate this year.

Nintendo is saving the industry as we speak. If it wasn't for them. All the gamers would have is GTA, Madden, and CoD every year. On top of the fact that many gamers think that imagination is only for kids and every game has to be mature. Their $240 million loss will easily be rebounded in 2014.

Sony, on the other had, is on the verge of collapse. the PS4 is one of the only things that is selling.

ive said it before and i will say it again, the wii u had the stench of death around it once more of the details were known...

that being said, if they just release the handheld/home console hybrid fairly soon http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2014-01-16-nintendos-next-move-consolidation

and improve their online marketplace (all purchases should be to the account, not the hardware) then they can actually carve out a sustainable position in the market

i think they should give the wii u owners a few more years of service and then release this new consolidated device around late 2016. it could probably be about as powerful as a vita and still attract hardcore gamers while keeping the price reasonable for the younger handheld audience
Partner with Sony next generation. Sony does the home console Nintendo does the handheld. They each release their IPs on both the home console and the portable. They enable remote play between both.

Nintendo makes great games but every console in the post-SNES era has been mediocre outside of a select few games most of which were made by Nintendo.

they really need a better online infrastructure. friend codes and digital games being tied to a console is just ridiculous. they could easily steal some people from sony and microsoft. I mean what gamer doesn't dream about working for nintendo?

that is not realistic. it was a bad idea when they first tried in the 90s, and it's an even worse idea now

nintendo has money, yes. but no business in the world can make year on year losses without some sort of change. personally, i hate the idea on ninty playing it safe or following the market because the thing i love about nintendo is their creativity and the fact that they often go against the grain to provide unique experiences. but i understand the bottom line too, gotta make a profit.

from iwata's statement it seems that they are considering some way to tie in ios to wii u without fully going ios. im interested what they are talking about. some sort of nintendo app? i dont know how it would work and be sustainable in the long run, but thats something for them to worry about, not me. his reference to pricing obviously goes along with smart devices, but i hope it also extends to consoles. i would love to see game prices come down, but that might just be a dream.

the main thing lacking from the wii u in my eyes is a library of games. they aren't getting third party support and its killing them. meanwhile the 3ds IS getting third party support. it would seem to me to be a good idea to allow 3ds games to play on wii u. they have basically the same controls anyway. that would instantly bolster the game library. but it might also have the effect of having devs only support 3ds so it can play on both. but to me it seems like a good option regardless to get third party titles on the wii u.

another possibility based on his comments about pricing is smaller, cheaper games being released possibly by eshop. maybe even in chapters. i dont know. im interested to see if they have something like this planned.

like i said, they got money enough to survive a few years in the red, but year on year losses are not optimal for any company, no matter how rich. obviously going third party would not support nintendo as a whole, maybe that would be enough to support some sectors of nintendo but not the entire company. one thing is clear from iwata's statements is that they arent ready to give up yet

a worse idea is them continuing to put out shytty gimmick themed home consoles and burning through money only to be stuck hoping gimmicks catch on and make them successful. mainstream gaming has basically grown up and evolved away from the kinda stuff Nintendo is trying to do. Nintendo's home console fanbase grew up and dropped them and weren't replaced. the people that used to play Nintendo games back in the day still game the majority just don't play Nintendo games anymore they moved on to dudebro online shooters and other mainstream casual games that Nintendo just doesn't do. the whole kid friendly home console market is damn near extinct.

that being said plenty of those people that "moved on" would likely buy a Mario game is it was on the PS4 they just ain't gonna drop $300 on a dedicated Nintendo box.

the best way i can sum it up is like this picture if Disney said fukk DVD and Blu-Ray we're gonna put out our own proprietary disc player and out movies will only work on it. other studios are welcomed to make movies on our Disney format disc also but Disney will no longer make DVDs and Blu-Rays and if you wanna watch their movie you gotta buy their proprietary player and disc that only play in it and don't work on conventional movie players.

all the other movie studios continue to make Blu-Rays and DVDs. some of them also put out disc on the Disney player. from a consumer standpoint you just buy a DVD or Blu-Ray player and tell your kids to watch Universal, Dreamworks, and 20th Century Fox kids movies. Nintendo is stuck with their dedicated Nintendo box and the rest of the market is like we'll just buy a PS4 or an Xbox One and game on those and just skip Nintendo.

Winb like 35 and the only one that gets it. Some loser said partner with Sega and drop VIRTUA FIGHTER AND SONIC as killer games.

Those two franchises haven't been relevant in decades :laff:

Especially Virtua Fighter, which hasn't had a new game since what, 2007?

Don't sleep on SEGA. I know that you would buy a great Streets of Rage remake on the Wii U if it came out

Sony is going under and the PS4 is the only product that still gets attention from them.
