I meant that the likes of Madden, GTA, and CoD make up of 80% of all console software sales. The remaining franchises are struggling to keep afloat fighting for the remaining 20% of the software sales and have to release cheap ass DLC to keep their doors open.
They don't though.
EA for example survives off of it's entire sports games portfolio.
Madden is one of it's big sellers but it's not the
ONLY big seller
they have.
The same goes for Rockstar, they had several different releases
from all of their studios and most of them managed to sell well
outside of GTA which sold phenomenally.
CoD is another good example, it sold fantastically
but it isn't the only game that kept activision alive.
That's also owed to "Guitar Hero" which sold like crazy.
Bigger publishers like EA wouldn't be around if they only
had one game selling while everything else is floundering.
Games like Mass Effect and Dead Space sold well enough
to get multiple sequels.
The same goes for series like Assassin's Creed and splinter Cell
which sold well enough to get sever sequels, while still
allowing Activision to drop games that everyone can play like
Rayman or the Raving Rabbids titles (which all sell well enough
to get sequels green lit).
This is why I say if Nintendo were no more, these games wouldn't stop
getting made, and developers wouldn't stop being creative.
But Nintendo isnt hurting
If they had to put out a statement to investors then you can TRUST they're definitely feeling the heat.
One poster already said it, you can't run a company in the red, eventually
you have to make PROFIT.
