Nintendo has no one to blame but themselves. Relying on shytty gimmicks instead of persuading 3rd parties to make games for there system. The only reason I would buy a Nintendo console is for monster hunter and I rather just wait until Capcom decides to bail on them.

Why Sony's Shuhei Yoshida wants Nintendo to succeed
By Dave Tach on Nov 13, 2013 at 12:00p @dptach

President of Sony Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida wants Nintendo to be "very successful."

In an interview with IGN this week, Yoshida said that Nintendo "makes pretty fun family-friendly games." He has two Wii U consoles at his house, which he plays with his young daughters.

Nintendo's strength at catering to young gamers also pays dividends to companies like Sony, who generally cater to older gamers, he said.

"I think Nintendo and us are pretty much in the same group," Yoshida said. "We need Nintendo to be very successful, to help induct as many consumers who like to play games with controllers, right? With sticks and buttons. Because we believe they are great things."

Speaking broadly about the three console manufacturers, Yoshida said that just because they're in competition doesn't mean that Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony don't help each other.

"We need each other, I think, to create a bigger story."

I think some 12 year old fanboys talking shyt on Internet forums would have zero impact on Nintendo choosing to go 3rd party on Sony platforms. Having said that, Nintendo ain't going third party to the other two no time soon. Even with the losses they are so very far away from that scenario at this point it's delusional to think its even a possibility

Even worse, Sony shyt on Nintendo on a regular basis and utterly disrespects them. That alone will motivate Nintendo to never give to Sony because of the disrespect like "No one gives a shyt about Mario" when Mario still delivers quality games. Nintendo has too much history in gaming and still contributes to gaming in an unparalleled fashion. That said, many of these "casual" gamers lost their way and no longer give a fukk about quality of games and let their ego get the best of them by supporting mature games with OK gameplay and great graphics. From the PS3/360 era, variety has all but disappeared from the sales charts if it wasn't done by Nintendo.

when Iwata loses his job what do you think the next guy is gonna step in and do? the same shyt Iwata was doing?

I get that some Nintendo fans are irrationally attached to the idea of Nintendo putting out home consoles but its time they faced the facts Sony and Microsoft are just flat out better at creating hardware gamers want to buy and developers want to develop for. Nintendo used to be good at making hardware but like with most other things they stayed stuck in their ways and the world passed them by. they've burned so many bridges they're now trapped on an island.

only an obstinate company like Nintendo would put out a piece of hardware with a custom controller like the Wii U gamepad built on Power PC when everything else is x86 (PC, PS4, Xbox One) so now third party developers need to specifically design games to work with a custom controller on a system architecture nobody else uses? and for what to reach the 6 or so million people that have Wii Us when in a few month both Sony and Microsoft (who's consoles share the x86 architecture) will have passed that number? yeah um no.

nah, development for the PS4 and 360 is insanely expensive. In fact, they put more 3rd party companies out of business than Nintendo ever could because of insane development costs.

This is a case of the consumers know how to win and nintendi wont give it to them. True they got a few good games like the new mario but they need to pump out that quality they had with the nes. shyt they had the game industry on lock. Maybe they should merge witg sega and bust out a new system, the dreamcast is still one of the best systems imo. Their og mascots like megaman, contra, double dragon would be crazy if they all got a update or even some of their other old titles like kid icarus, master blaster ect.. Thats just me tho carry on

If it wasnt for everyone else we'd be playing:

Mario
Mario kart
Mario party
Zelda
Metroid
Kirby
Starfox
Smash Bros
Donkey Kong
Diddy Kong Racing

And 1-2 sequels of these same titles every generation

Is this better?
And you see that hurt them. Out of those titles ony Mario and Mariocart got decent sequels, i guess Zelda too but that roster aint shyt compared to their glory days. Hell even my son knows this from playing the nes and snes emulators and hes only 11 lol

Look, I been with Nintendo since the NES.
I seen the Virtual Boy and was excited to play that Mario Tennis in a 3D box similar to the 3D tech of today :manny:
I was amazed by the black and white Gameboy
Then the gameboy color dropped and I was like :whew:
SNES :ahh:
N64 :gladbron:
Gamecube :patrice:
DS :ehh:
Wii :dahell:
3DS :ld:
Wii-U :beli:
2DS :rudy:

The writing is on the wall, been on the wall.

Dead man walking Nintendo is. KNACK sold more copies than Super Mario Bros, and the Wii-U been out for over a year

There is nothing left to talk about. I'm sorry :to: Its over

THIS

I wanted to succeed but they're just stuck in their stubborn ways and will go the way of Sega sooner than later.

While console war automatons are gloating, true to form the internet is providing very little in the way of solutions. Assume that Nintendo can absorb these losses for some time (this gen at least) and maintain its envious working capital. The focus should turn to market capitalisation, including an honest evaluation of the segments available.

The model for this gen is integration. Machines that do it all. M$ want to insert a machine between you and your TV so you can use it to watch TV. Sony too, albeit with more of a leaning towards gaming. This is interesting because it assumes a sedentary lifestyle, akin to America where people are fat, lazy and passive in general. But mobile gaming bucks this trend. What if mobile gaming maintains this unprecedented growth? Again making an assumption that integration continues to generate demand, there may be a way to apply the existing wii U model which plainly Nintendo has underutilised.

Nintendo's point of difference is that tablet controller. In your home, it can basically do more than any existing controller. Best believe the evolution of that tech is a controller which is essentially a DS like self-contained device you can take with you and/or play in your lounge on your TV as you see fit, with no scaling back of content.

The next step logically is a strategic partnership tapping into both Nintendos experience in the existing portable/home/software development realm and exploiting a partner's existing market penetration in the mobile/home integration segment within which Nintendo is well positioned to move. Especially compared to the two other hardware manufacturers who have respectively had mixed results with portable gaming devices and mobile phones. Sure, they can do stuff with your tv, but nothing demonstrably driven by demand-side factors.

As distinct from Sony where you are buying two devices to do the same, the refinement of this Wii U model lends itself to an holistic product straight out the box. What that means is the likelihood of Ninty partnering with say a Samsung or an Apple is far more likely in a generations time than any 3rd party deal with Sony or M$, and could well serve to revitalise their performance while providing a reciprocal benefit to a company such as Apple which is looking to increase its share of wallet/lounge.

This solution would suit the existing experiences curves of both firms. For a company which developed the Wii based on a blue ocean strategy (read it if you haven't) it seems that many in its corporate executive could do with a refresher in avoiding red oceans.

Forgive the incoherence, I'm holdaying in Indonesia and talking extemporaneously.

tl;dr Nintendo would be better placed to strategically align with (for example) Apple and continue to refine this Wii U model as it shows promise.Within a generation, a more powerful Wii U type machine (with a better name) with a completely fully formed handheld device/controller/anything you want (a phone????).

this loss is good for Nintendo.
Yep and anyone who says differently is delusional. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you get your shyt straight and that's what is happening to Nintendo. They obvious have internal issue and are stuck in a bubble.

Its probably a wrap for the Wii U but its far from over for Nintendo. Some of the posts in here are kind of wild considering this company is worth billions and surprisingly have little debt. They just need to get their head out the sand and adjust to the market.

Whether they can overcome those internal problems or are willing to adjust is the question though. Some of these issues have been there for a decade and actually become worse under their current CEO.

All this "Nintendo needs to make PS4 and Xbone games" talk comes from one thing only, people being selfish and not wanting to buy multiple consoles. They're simply mad Nintendo is forcing them to buy their console to get to play some of the greatest games of the generation, every generation.
