No charges for Meridian man who ran over wife
A Meridan man who ran over his wife while leaving their house during a late-night argument in late June won't face any charges in connection with her death, according to both Ada County and Boise prosecutors.
Melinda Croghan, 38, died in front of her home on West Anton Street, near Meridian and Ustick roads. Her husband, Patrick Croghan, 35, was behind the wheel of the Dodge pickup that struck her, according to the Idaho Transportation Department's report on the collision.
The Croghan family was notified of the decision not to charge about a week ago, said Boise Chief Deputy Attorney Steve Rutherford. Ada County prosecutors reviewed the case before referring it to the Boise City Attorney's Office.
"It was a difficult case to analyze," Rutherford said. There were no witnesses, other than the two parties involved. It occurred at around 11:30 p.m. June 27.
Investigators believe that Melinda Croghan was holding onto the driver's side door as the truck backed out of the driveway, then fell off and was run over.
An officer responding to the scene said he found Patrick Croghan on the tailgate of his pickup, and his wife was across his lap. He noted there appeared to be a tire mark across her stomach.
Police said both of the Croghans had been drinking alcohol before the incident. The collision report listed Patrick Croghan's blood-alcohol level at .073, below the legal driving limit of .08 BAC. Melinda Croghan's blood-alcohol level was .20 BAC.
Melinda Croghan is survived by six children. A GoFundMe account that was set up to help the family with funeral costs raised more than $8,500.
