I realized that of all the people I know that turned to religion (usually Christian) they did it at a point in their lives when everything was going wrong or were in shytty situations and was grasping for any kind of life saver

I never known of a person to seek out religion while in a stable, happy place in their lives

It's always "I was stripping and fukkin every guy that bought me dinner"
"I was shooting heroin at least 10 times a day"
"I was suicidal"
"on lock down 23 hours a day"

ikr. i think religion is a way for people to shift responsibility from themselves to a "higher being." when a lot of people make stupid mistakes, instead of them to learn from their actions and better themselves, they'd rather depend on a spirit in the sky to fix their issues. its kind of pathetic. how is christianity, islam, judaism, etc less absurd than the gods the ancient greeks and romans used to worship?

I became religious again about three years ago and it wasn't because I was in tough times. in fact, I was living a pretty good life.

I just felt like something was missing. I wasn't spiritual, and religion for me, among many other things, helped me focus and dedicate time to spirituality. it's been useful in my life.

one of the things that appealed to me about the Christian tradition, besides it being familiar- I was raised Christian - was the theme of Grace.

I felt and I still feel that I've been very fortunate in life. although I don't always deserve it, things usually work out for me. I face a challenge and I'm able to come out on top. This is in part because of my abilities, but also because of something else, some force that I can't control that helps me in so many cases.

I give that credit to God.

And even if God is a placebo to some of you, it's a placebo I want and one that enriches my life.

I was Atheist and agnostic .. and arrogant for many years. cynicism is so boring and empty.

Nothing like listening to a masterful orator talk that liberation theology talk, surrounded by a kind community.
