Nas got a casino, Jay lost a casino.

Kendrick eliminated Drake and JFold from hip hop

Diddy getting his karma for Pac

Nas brought back Slick Rick, De La, Mobb Deep, Ghost and Rae then potentially dropping his version of Detox/Illmatic 2

Youngboy and Thug got released

Rappers are no longer selling out like the 1990s.

Looks like to me Hip hop won.

People act as if hip hop would be in a better spot if it were low effort drake singles still charting lol

Like I said there haven’t really been new genuine superstars since the early 2010s shyt was bound to fizzle out
pop smoke xxx juice were all genuine stars. they all died that was the last wave of stars

UMG put their money behind the wrong guy ..had 1 hot year and killed the culture :mjlol:
Drake hasn’t had a major hit since Scorpion. They are following the money

They been waiting 6+ years for another Gods Plan

It’s ok to admit Aubrey been cold for 5 albums now which is why people were already off him by the time this beef happened

Its hard to say drake is struggling when he isnt really releasing shyt. All this weird ass promo nikkas do rather than just drop projects + videos has made it where nobody cares anymore. Like in the past you could say musicians had seasons where they drop + tour then take a 1-2 year break and repeat, but these dudes have the whole “on peasents i dont care about music so whem i drop you are blesses to sniff my ass” and at this rate folks like ok i dont care anymore

Which is what you expect from nikkas touching 40 after like 15 years of non stop releases. It’s like, what else is left for them other than making more money?

They hit the point of diminishing returns a long time ago.

Realistically drake is a legacy act. If I go to a drake concert I don’t want to hear anything after views

I dont disagree. Its like depending in Lebron to hold up NBA. The CULTURE imo is dead and clearly died when we went from being cool and ahead of the curve to the music being dominated by junkie and prostitutes which both were seen as voiceless clowns in the past.

Someone used the Punk Rock analogy of where Rap is heading now where it will just shift to various underground scenes but I’d rather the shyt happening get named something else vs everything that “sounds black” being called hip hop, because the Skill aspect is absent in much of this new stuff so I rather it be considered “different” to be fair to those artist

It’s like rock in general. I couldn’t even name a contemporary rock band.

Only thing that feels like it never dips is country and general pop music

:russ: Some people are really pushing the “Drake went away and it killed the genre” narrative lol. Drake never left, bruh been outside since 2024. He dropped tracks from the beef, 100 gigs, $$$, live streams, tours, and tracks from Iceman. The problem is…some of that shyt isn’t hitting.

Havent gone through this thread but I assume people have already mentioned that there was a change in the Billboard rules where records that have been on the chart for a long time

Until this week, Billboard employed a system that seemed reasonable enough: Songs were pulled from the Hot 100 if they'd dropped below No. 25 after 52 weeks, or below No. 50 after 20 weeks. That generally prevented the chart's lower reaches from getting crowded with stubborn-but-declining hits — endlessly charting smashes like Post Malone's "I Had Some Help (feat. Morgan Wallen)" and Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" finally dropped off the chart in recent months thanks to this system — but didn't have an answer for songs that just weren't descending far enough or quickly enough.

Effective this week, the thresholds have moved dramatically, in ways that will reshape the charts in the months and years to come. Now, if a song drops below No. 5 after 78 weeks — a year and a half! — it's gone. (Consider that "Lose Control" sat at No. 6 before The Life of a Showgirl came along.) If a song drops below No. 10 after 52 weeks, it's gone. If it drops below No. 25 after 26 weeks? Bzzzt. And if it drops below No. 50 after 20 weeks? That's a wrap.

So be sure to take a moment, light a candle and pause to reflect on such once-immortal, now-vanquished eternals as… [lights dim as a screen bears the words "In Memoriam"] Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars' "Die With a Smile" (60 weeks), Benson Boone's "Beautiful Things" and "Sorry I'm Here for Someone Else" (89 and 32 weeks, respectively), Morgan Wallen's "I'm the Problem" and "Just in Case" (36 and 29 weeks, respectively) and Kendrick Lamar's "Luther (feat. SZA)" (46 weeks), as well as songs by sombr and BigXthaPlug. We'll never know how long they might have lasted under the old system — except in the case of "Lose Control," which we can state with virtual certainty would have left the Hot 100 sometime after the next Ice Age.

I mean I guess its good in a way cause streaming overinflated shyt in general....but this is also go way in the other direction. Cause even in the radio play physical single era you could see songs on the chart for a full year

Obviously hip hop is gonna take a hit with no new songs but its also killing a lot of genres. And with no new acts being churned and manufactred out ause theres no budget in rap in labels, this shyt is resetting

Drizzy has released a whole ass album, 3 flopped lead singles, 3 movies and an album worth of snippets this year. Dog House or whatever that single was had to have been the worst piece of music ever released in the genre of hip hop. Aubrey has CTE from the beef, he's not even a factor.

Drake like Kanye really lost that “hit” factor that made them so popular. Once you get a stink of failure on you it’s hard to reverse public perception, especially without label backing.

Cardi put out her album and her biggest hits were years old already. No one is dropping big hit songs anymore. We didn’t even have a song of the summer this year.

Music is in a dire place, it’s lost it’s valued
