The ex-girlfriend of a former modeling agent-turned-presidential special envoy is threatening Melania Trump with legal action while vowing to tear down the first lady's "corrupt system."

Amanda Ungaro, a 41-year-old former model from Brazil, threatened to upend the first lady's life in a series of intensifying posts on X just hours before Trump on Thursday disavowed all ties to Jeffrey Epstein or knowledge of his crimes.

"I have nothing left to lose in my life," Ungaro posted on X early Thursday. "I will tear down the entire system — be careful with me b****."

A minute earlier, Ungaro, the former partner of Trump ally Paolo Zampolli, vowed to expose the first lady while invoking the president.

"I will tear down your corrupt system, even if it’s the last thing I do in my life," Ungaro posted. "I will go all the way — I am not afraid. Maybe you should be afraid of what I know … of who you are, and who your husband is."

In another reply to an archived post from Melania's former @FLOTUS45 account, Ungaro vowed to "take legal action" against Trump and her "pedophile husband" while alleging long-standing ties to former model.

"I have known you for 20 years," Ungaro posted. "You knew I was detained in ICE. You were present in my life — every year on my son’s birthday, even sending Secret Service and being the first to congratulate him, back in 2016. Something was clearly wrong, but I am not part of any evil mission involving children. So what did you do, Melania? You tried to involve me, but you failed — because I have character."

Newsweek, which could not independently confirm the authenticity of the allegations, reached out to Ungaro—who was deported to Brazil following her arrest on fraud charges last year—and the White House for comment on Friday.

Zampolli, 56, who is Trump's special envoy for global partnerships, reached out to a top Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official last June to relay that Ungaro was in the country illegally, The New York Times reported last month.

Ungaro was later deported, which may have occurred regardless of Zampolli's involvement, but the matter underscored the lengths federal government officials will go to settle scores during the second Trump administration, the newspaper reported.

Zampolli denied asking ICE to detain Ungaro or any other favors, insisting he wanted to learn more about her case. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials said she had been detained and ultimately deported because of an expired visa and fraud charges.

"Any suggestion that she was arrested and removed for political reasons or favors is FALSE," DHS officials told the Times in a statement.

Zampolli and Donald Trump—fixtures in the New York City nightlife scene during the 1990s—have repeatedly recalled how the modeling agent introduced him to Melania Knauss at the Kit Kat Club in 1998 after recruiting her from Slovenia.

Zampolli also once discussed buying a modeling agency with Epstein and his name appears several times in the documents pertaining to the convicted sex offender released by the Justice Department, the Times reported.

But Zampolli insisted he didn't have a close relationship with Epstein, appearing far less frequently in the millions of documents than other prominent figures.

"At least I was included, because if you're not on the list, you're a loser, right?" he told the Times in a recent interview.

Zampolli also recalled the fateful Melania-Donald meeting during an interview Friday, reiterating that he, not Epstein, introduced the pair.

"I'm ready to testify in front of Congress if I'm asked," Zampolli told Sky News when asked about how Donald and Melania met. "And [I'll] say the truth—because this is totally nonsense."

Ungaro, meanwhile, told the Times that she was a 17-year-old model when she arrived in New York in 2002 after flying on Epstein's plane from Paris with her French agent. She never saw Epstein again but met Zampolli later that year and began a two-decade romantic relationship with him beginning when she was 19, Zampolli told the Times.

In 2023, after Zampolli made headlines for explicit text messages he allegedly sent to a sex worker, Ungaro ended the relationship, moved to Florida and married a doctor from Brazil. The former couple then became mired in a custody battle for their 15-year-old son before Ungaro and her husband were arrested in June.

Ungaro recalled flying on Epstein's so-called "Lolita Express" in an interview last month.

"I was a little scared when I saw all those girls," she told The Globe, a Brazilian newspaper. "I was like, 'Guys, where am I?'"

Ungaro said her former agent, Jean-Luc Brunel, who acted as Epstein's scout in Brazil, according to the Justice Department, introduced her to Epstein during the flight.

Epstein then asked Ungaro her age and hometown, prompting Epstein's longtime associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, to react emphatically, she recalled.

"Oh, that's cool that you're from Brazil!" Maxwell allegedly said.

Ungaro said she kept to herself during the flight but noticed how many passengers seemingly knew Epstein intimately.

"Some of them sat on his lap, stayed close, playing," Ungaro said, adding that Maxwell appeared at ease, too. "It gave the impression that she already knew those girls. It didn't seem like a chance meeting. Those people had not just met, as was my case."

Ambassador Paolo Zampolli said Thursday that he's ready to testify before Congress to prove that he was the individual who introduced President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.

Zampolli made the pronouncement in a phone interview with the Daily Mail after the First Lady made a stunning statement in the White House on serial pedophile Jeffrey Epstein - an announcement that apparently even took the President by surprise.

Among the comments she made, the First Lady denied rumors that it was Epstein who introduced Melania to her future husband.

'I'm ready to testify in Congress, in front of Congress, to say who introduced the First Lady, and I'm ready to even bring another 50 witnesses to say they were present that night,' the Italian-American diplomat said in an interview with the Daily Mail. 'The whole world knows this. This is old news.'

The first couple, as the story goes, met at a New York Fashion Week party in September 1998 held at the Kit Kat Club and hosted by Zampolli, who at the time was a modeling agent.

Asked about what prompted the First Lady's shock statement, Zampolli said he believed Melania earnestly feels for Epstein's many victims.

'I'm sure she cares about the victims and everybody that has been a victim has a right to expose this animal,' Zampolli told the Daily Mail. 'I think the First Lady has the biggest heart in the world, she's a family woman, and she's our marvelous First Lady,' he added.

Marc Beckman, senior adviser to the First Lady, told the Daily Mail that Melania spoke out because 'enough is enough' and 'the lies must stop.'

The timing raised eyebrows. Iran war coverage has largely drowned out the Epstein story, save for an ongoing battle on Capitol Hill over whether former Attorney General Pam Bondi must still sit for an Epstein-related deposition.

Even President Trump professed ignorance, telling MSNOW he didn't 'know anything about' Melania's plans to address Epstein.

The First Lady's office had sent a press release to the media on Wednesday announcing she planned to make remarks - but gave no hint of the subject.

In a brief statement, during which she ignored reporters' shouted questions, Melania made clear she was neither 'friends' with Epstein nor a 'victim' of the pedophile.

'I honestly think, deep in her heart, she cares about the victims,' Zampolli said. 'I know she's not a victim. We know that.'

'They met randomly, they met socially - everybody knew Epstein,' he added. 'I'm in the files, you know?'

The New York Times confirmed that Zampolli's name appeared in the Epstein files, in a story alleging the ambassador - who serves as Trump's Special Envoy for Global Partnership - had outed his ex-girlfriend for being in the country illegally.

'At no time did I request any favors from my colleagues,' he told the Daily Mail, denying he had used his close ties to the President to have his ex, Brazilian model Amanda Ungaro, deported.

'My inquiries were solely aimed at understanding the situation, and any advice I sought was strictly in relation to my son's safety,' he added in an interview last month.

The Times also reported that both Zampolli and Ungaro knew Epstein, and that Epstein and Zampolli had discussed buying a modelling agency together - though in a 2011 email to an Emirati businessman, Epstein sounded a sharply different note: 'Be careful, [Zampolli] is trouble. Lots. He sells stories to the press.'

In a phone call on Thursday, Zampolli dismissed any suggestion that his fraught relationship with Ungaro had prompted the First Lady's statement.

'There's no way. This is the First Lady of the United States. Do you think she cares about my ex?' he said.

Since her deportation, Ungaro has spoken out in Brazilian media about flying in 2002, aged 17, on Epstein's private jet, the Lolita Express - and how uncomfortable the experience was.

'All I wanted was to get off that plane. I knew something was wrong - I just didn't know what,' she told O Globo. 'At the time, it never crossed my mind that it could involve abuse.'

Ungaro has not suggested Epstein shared a close relationship with the Trumps.

Testimony from a former intern sheds light on how Jeffrey Epstein used the International Peace Institute to attract, move, and control young women under the guise of diplomatic opportunities –including in Geneva.

“I was promised a career in international diplomacy. In reality, it was just a façade,” Svetlana Pozhidaeva tells Le Temps. In 2012, the Russian woman, who was less than 30 years old, was more familiar with fashion runways than meetings at the United Nations.

A graduate of Russia’s elite Moscow State Institute of International Relations, which is run by the foreign ministry, she first came in touch with Jeffrey Epstein through modeling in 2008. Four years later, the American millionaire facilitated her access into the diplomatic world through the International Peace Institute (IPI), an independent think tank based between New York, Vienna, and Bahrain, promoting causes aligned with the UN.

After joining an IPI delegation to Kazakhstan in 2014, Pozhidaeva was hired as an intern to help organise a conference in Geneva on pandemic preparedness.

Now 42, she says she was among the many “assistants” sexually exploited by Epstein. She agreed to speak to Le Temps, she says, to expose the “system designed to bring women to the United States under the pretext of professional opportunities.” Pozhidaeva describes the control the millionaire exerted over her – managing her US visa, finances, and housing, while pressuring her to introduce him to models. She now lives under a different name. In an email, her New York-based lawyer, Brittany Henderson, said her client is “one of many victims of Epstein and suffered serious abuse at his hands.”

In her case, as revealed by the Epstein files, the financier leveraged his ties with Terje Rød-Larsen, who led the IPI from 2005 to 2020. The Norwegian diplomat gained prominence as one of the architects of the Oslo Accords.

Terje Rød-Larsen, former International Peace Institute president in New York, 19 September 2017.
Rød-Larsen, now 78, was close to Epstein, whom he described as his “best friend and a super rare, thoroughly good human being.” The Epstein files suggest their relationship extended beyond professional ties, with stays at Epstein’s residences, inclusion in his will, and loans among some of the perks of their friendship. In addition to funding from partner states and foundations, the think tank reportedly received around $650,000 from Epstein.

A new batch of exchanges made public by US authorities in January details the network Epstein built to attract young women, promising them professional opportunities through his contacts in academia, politics, and diplomacy. Pozhidaeva describes this system as “chains that kept me tied to my abuser, allowing Epstein to move me internationally and continue his abuse under the cover of institutional legitimacy.”

IPI’s facilitating role
According to her, the IPI played a key role in these movements, with the support of Rød-Larsen. In September 2015, the think tank organised a meeting in Geneva entitled ‘Preparing for Pandemics’. At the Palais des Nations, Rød-Larsen delivered the opening speech. The guest list included public health experts, doctors, historians, and representatives from civil society and international organisations. Around ten IPI staff members were also present, including Pozhidaeva, then an intern affiliated with the Vienna office.

She claims the think tank facilitated the travel arrangements orchestrated by Epstein: “On his instructions, the IPI obtained several visas for me to the United States and the European Union, claiming I was conducting ‘essential work’ for the organisation.”

This account was corroborated by ‘Erik’ a former employee contacted by Le Temps asking that his real name not be published, who helped organise the event in Geneva. He said there had even been plans to open an IPI office on the shores of Lake Geneva, though this never materialised. According to him, Pozhidaeva introduced herself at the Vienna office as Epstein’s girlfriend, though Pozhidaeva firmly denies she ever had a romantic relationship with him. The IPI declined to answer questions, instead forwarding them to Rød-Larsen and his lawyers, who did not respond. The think tank said it is no longer in contact with him, and remains “deeply concerned by the recently published documents.”

One of the last mentions of Pozhidaeva in the released Epstein files dates back to February 2019. A bank record shows she received a monthly income of over $8,000, paid by Epstein. It also includes a 2017 recommendation letter for a US visa, written on IPI letterhead and signed by Rød-Larsen. Yet she maintains these were not genuine professional assignments. “Instead of the professional role I had been promised, I was relegated to taking photos at events or transcribing notes which, I believe, were never published,” she says.

A trace of Svetlana Pozhidaeva's trip to Kazakhstan is found in a letter of recommendation signed by Terje Rød-Larsen.(US Department of Justice)
According to Erik, Geneva was chosen for the pandemic event partly because of its partnership with the World Health Organization, as well as funding for the event from the Edmond de Rothschild Foundation. This appears to be supported by an email sent a year before the meeting in which Epstein writes that he’s “happy to hear that an Edmond Rothschild-related foundation has agreed to sponsor the IPI Health and security conference”.

An IPI working document even referred to the initiative as “The Rothschild Conference on Health and Security”. The foundation was mentioned as a partner “involved in the issue of peace and health, as well as humanitarian issues,” alongside the International Committee of the Red Cross, WHO, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, with which Epstein reportedly acted as an intermediary for the IPI.

However, according to an investigation by Le Monde, Rød-Larsen introduced Epstein to Ariane de Rothschild in 2013. A spokesperson for the Edmond de Rothschild Group said the foundation “never funded events organised by the IPI.”

The IPI is also mentioned in other exchanges revealed in the files. In a previous investigation into Epstein’s links with students in Switzerland, Le Temps reported a case in which Rød-Larsen, acting on Epstein’s instructions, contacted a Swiss diplomat to assist with a visa application for a student wishing to enrol at the Glion Institute of Higher Education near Montreux. In messages about the procedure, Epstein advised the student to tell the Swiss consulate in New York that she worked for “Terje Rød-Larsen’s International Peace Institute.”

A second ‘assistant’ recruited by the IPI
“I know I am not the only one who was trapped in this IPI mechanism,” Pozhidaeva says. Le Temps was able to identify a second young woman from eastern Russia who was hired by the think tank. She communicated regularly with Epstein over more than eight years, from May 2011 to June 2019.

Beyond sexually explicit exchanges, in which Epstein joked about having sex with her, Barbara (not her real name) became a reliable “assistant”. Over time, she took on a recruiting role, arranging meetings between other young women and Epstein. As with Pozhidaeva, her lawyer Brittany Henderson stated that she is “one of many victims of Jeffrey Epstein and suffered serious abuse at his hands.” Close to Karyna Shuliak, Epstein’s last known girlfriend, the young Russian joined the think tank in New York in 2016 as an intern for two years. “She was first an intern, then an employee, then again an intern, before becoming a consultant. Her status changed several times,” Richard (not his real name), a work colleague of Barbara’s in New York, tells Le Temps.

Tensions rose within the IPI in 2019, fuelled by internal incidents and media reports, particularly in The Daily Beast. Le Temps learned of a strongly-worded letter by staff to Rød-Larsen. This may explain why Barbara’s ties to Epstein were more concealed within the organisation. “Everyone I spoke to in the office was very shocked and had no idea,” Richard recalls. Articles co-authored by her are still accessible on the think tank’s website.

Epstein was arrested in July 2019. Barbara was still working at the IPI until a few weeks prior to his detention, though she no longer works there. Rød-Larsen, for his part, was forced to resign in 2020 by the IPI’s board following the publication by the US justice department’s first filings revealing his ties to Epstein.
