Do you ever feel embarrassed/ashamed by your ancestors cruelty or behavior?
Or for what your people have done to cultures in society?
I'm not saying you have to feel anyway I'm just curious.
Probably won't read this whole thread. But, yes, I am ashamed at what my white ancestors have done in the past ... and I'm often embarrassed by what my white peers do every day.
I'm also fully willing to admit that I've undoubtedly benefitted from being white on a number of levels (directly and indirectly), and this bothers me sometimes as well.
But, I also know there's very little I can do about it. If I get passed up for a job or an opportunity in order to help level the playing field, I'm ok with that. If my kids have to work a little harder to succeed in order for more people to have the same chance, that's something I can live with and explain as well.
Of course, having had certain advantages, I understand that my stating the above doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot.
