Interesting. I never thought about how going into jail as a Muslim (who was also clearly innocent/being set up) would be a different experience, given the amount of Muslims in there. I've never been to jail or close to it, but I have friends who have and they all have mentioned how honorable the Muslims are in there. On some samurai or medieval knight type shyt.

I'd imagine he's constantly running into guys who protected him in prison and he's now in position to help them. That's amazing.

When it comes to this story it breaks my heart.

This was the first major news story I remember in the city growing up.

I learned first hand as a kid how the media can sway public opinion.

There's a lot of revisionist history with this case.
But I'll say the clearly No one thought they were innocent.
Black people too. No one

And we still haven't learned our lesson smh

I've been around Yusef. Used to run into him for a few years. Always a good dude and said what's up wherever we crossed paths. Wasn't until years later when I saw him on the cover of a newspaper did I realize he was one of the Central Park 5. I couldn't believe how well adjusted he was considering what he went through.

You still gonna get tested cause a lot of flaks and phonies convert for the rep or protection..My boy a born n raised muslim (family from Senegal), did 8-9 yrs upstate...From what he told me a lot of the OGs took a liken to him due to his knowledge of the Quran plus he was just a wise dude for his age who didn't carry himself like the typical street dude...Even though it helped to limit the fukkery best believe he had to handle himself multiple times especially when they transfered him to another prison plus the hood/crew he was affiliated with didn't help...With that said I'm sure the publicity of the case helped Yusuf but still being that young knowing ur innocent in an an environment of that magnitude I could only imagine....At least he came out young enough where he could relinquish his life but those older brehs 40-60+ who went in as teens though thats who you really feel bad for...:wow:
