So Iately my mom has been having trouble using her phone. While she's on the phone if she gets another call Instead of switching over to the other call she merges the calls and now has a 3 way convo going smh. I actually mentioned this to her before.

So I call her because I hadn't heard from her in a few days. After our short convo I didn't hang up right away because my hands were tied. So I was surprised when I heard my aunt's voice and I was also surprised to hear my aunt clowning me lol.

My aunt, who lives in France by the way, was quiet on the line but when she thought I had hung up she basically started teasing me to my mom for speaking English. I wasn't suppose to hear this. For anyone who is Haitian, my aunt was asking my mother "sa blan dit?" which is basically calling me a white guy. Most likely because I speak English too much. The truth is I do speak creole so I do think it's offensive and I don't sound white at all lol.

So my aunt is basically laughing while she is saying all this to my mom and just says something about the english language or something...and my mom doesn't defend me yo. My aunt is laughing calling me a white guy and she doesn't say anything to her. So I get back on the phone (I forgot what I said) and my mother says "hold on" and then hangs up lol. I'm pretty sure she hung up on both of us.

Anyway I'm trying to just convince myself that she's just teasing me but I don't like being called white and I really don't like my mom not defending me at all. U know what I mean? Like, why does my aunt feel so comfortable playing me behind my back to you?

I already knew along time ago that my mom is chatty and shouldn't be trusted with information. She is not the person to go to for advice...but I'm it's getting crazy now because I'm really losing respect for her once again after so many other times.

Above the fray.
Have to ignore your Haitian Haitian relatives. I've written about the exact same thing here.
Those are the relatives that openly laugh at you when you try to speak broken Kreyol. In this country, only a complete lowlife laughs at somebody attempting to speak a language. Where we're from your older relatives do it to you(and see nothing wrong with doing so)

Backwards mentality exists in lot of segments of old school Haitians. Not a complete coincidence or just due to outside forces that the country is in that state it is in.

Here's the difference between Ayisyen and everybody else.
The relatives will be living in America.....and clowning YOU for not speaking the mother tongue well....And to add to the fukkery, they will laugh at you on Saturday for not speaking Kreyol well and

KRIK?
On Monday call you up to ask you to translate something for them or to go with them somewhere and speak (English) for them.

Grow sum nuts, our family went to africa on holiday, my lil sis cant speak our native language, they were roasting her, but they love her accent tho.

Not a big deal breh, just a bit of jokes & roasting.

My mum roasts me to relatives for not having a wife n kids yet.

Its normal for black families to roast each other, even white families roast each other lol

Roast them back lol

None of this is unique to the Haitian experience.

If "back home" still makes any part of your community's vocabulary, you gonna get clowned.

You'll get it from family, friends,(even random ass older immigrants in the street), who secretly fear they haven't passed enough of their culture down. They'll clown your speech, your threads, your choice of women, furniture..... Everything.

White people who think they know more about "back home" , from their travels, will clown you.

You gotta have a sense of humor about the whole thing and just let it slide.
