The revisionist spin of Reasonable Doubt is the all time greatest accomplishment by a rapper. He says people basically was :ehh: to it when it dropped. Since then it has somehow morphed into a top 5 hip hop album.

not really revisionist

reasonable doubt came out at a time when what are now considered classics we're coming out on a weekly basis

not many albums at the time were held to that level until years later

I'll be honest breh. I started listening to Jay Z when Vol 2 dropped. I went back and listened to Reasonable, and In My Lifetime vol 1. But yeah, I get what you saying. Was Reasonable Doubt really buzzing like that when it first dropped?

Nope. It was a solid debut but remember there were monster albums that dropped in '96. "Aint :mjpls:" had a strong buzz due to Foxy Brown and people generally gave him credit for a good album. It would be like Ja on Pain is Love claiming Venni Vetti Vecci was a classic and it moving into GOAT contention.

Here, Vol 1 is higher than Dynasty.
