Hakeem was obviously better but I'm not sure if he counts. If its internationally trained, then ya, its prolly dirk. But if its just, not being born in america then there's ppl ahead of him.
Greatest international player ever? Dirk has an argument in terms of talent. But in terms of team accomplishments, if Tony Parker keeps winning championships, you could argue he had the "better" NBA career (if you value constant winning throughout one's career).
Some people on basketball forums say the great tragedy is that Arvydas Sabonis got injured and couldn't/didn't come to the NBA in the early 90s. Some say he would have been one of the greatest NBA centers. The old, crippled version of Sabonis was still a good player but he was a total shell of himself by the time he came here.
I think Dirk will go down as one of the best, but unless he wins two more rings in convincing fashion, he will never be better than the dream. Dream still has an impact in the NBA today as all of the current and recent great players have and still are talking to him for advice on how to play the game. Lebron, Carmelo, Dwight, Shaq, just to name a few. They all improved their game b/c of Dream. Dirk will never have that kind of legacy.
This really isn't pertinent to the thread.....but all of my uncles say Dirk isn't better than Bob McAdoo and is slightly overrated....But the best international player is Hakeem.........Euro = Dirk
If we're going purely by individual ability, it has to be Dirk. IMO, Hakeem doesn't count because he was drafted from an American college and was there for 3 years so a lot of his development took place in the US. Tony Parker and Ginobili are in the discussion due to their success but I still give the nod to Dirk.
