I usually don't knock a nikka's intelligence but........
Saving money to by a video game and pre-ordering can have two different meanings....
Saving for a game: you don't have all the funds right then and there so you set money aside each pay until you have enough to make the purchase.
Pre-Ordering a game: can be like you said to get a bonus (but in today's gaming you will be able to d/l most stuff from future DLC) or to make sure you receive a copy of the game first day release, or (in my case) a person wants a few games that all drop with in a few weeks of each other but don't want to spend one lump sum. I rather spend 20 25 dollars a pay then spend 500 dollars in one month on games.
As far as re-evaluating my life and priorities don't need to because the way I choose to purchase my games allows me to continue my life as a gamer and take care of my family with no problems, Maybe you need to take you own advice.
But like I kindly said to someone else in this thread "to each his own."
