Actually Africa was known as "Libya" as far back as the 5th century BC(and probably long before that) as noted by Herodotus.

@observe is right, Ethiopia was a much more general term it basically meant what "Black people" and "Africa" means to us today. They do allude to particulars when it comes to Ancient Ethiopia as a ruling state tho, it's considered most of Sudan and parts of modern Ethiopia while other sections of East Africa made up the land of "Put" or "Punt" also known as "God's land" by the Egyptians. The interesting thing about this is that the Egyptians said their ancestors came from the Upper Nile in Ethiopia which eerily links it to the literal cradle of humanity in scientific terms.

thats actually a well known fact. you need to step up your knowledge. the country of Ethiopia was referred to as Abyssinia. while the rest of black Africa was called ethiopia.
