NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Three thieves claiming to be “COVID-19 survey” workers stormed into a man’s Coney Island home, where they beat, slashed and robbed him this week, police said Wednesday.
The trio knocked on the 28-year-old victim’s door near West 27th Street and Surf Avenue around 5:40 p.m. Sunday.
The male suspects pretended to be “maintenance worker conducting a COVID-19 survey,” according to police.
When the victim opened the door, two of them forced their way into the home and began punching and kicking the victim in his face and body, police said.

One of them then took out a knife and slashed the victim’s hands and stole his cellphone, according to police.
The victim was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was treated for lacerations to his hands.
His assailants fled down West 28th Street towards Mermaid Avenue, police said.
