i work with tons of h1b's, and they don't care about/have knowledge of the american political landscape to be included in our voting. being taxed by a country you chose to move to for work reasons doesn't mean you get citizenship benefits.

and permanent employment residents are around 140k people, temp work authorization is around 1.4M, nah, 1.4M work authorized people don't deserve to vote, they're not citizens nor permanent residents

With your personal experience in mind do yo think those people will vote? Most H1B people I've met are living in their own world.

Based on the numbers I doubt there are many of the categories even in NY and it's a very small percentage. In a place like NYC I really don't see it being a big deal.

Just to confirm you're fine with permanent residents voting though?

I doubt anything will come from this and in reading the article again it seems like this is specifically for green card holders. It's not an and or situation.

Immigrant voting is not without precedent in New York City nor the country. Prior to World War I, immigrants in many states could vote in local, state and even Congressional elections—even while women and blacks could not. And in New York City, until the system was disbanded in 2002, all residents were allowed to vote for and serve on local school boards. Six towns in Maryland's Montgomery County have been at the forefront of expanding voting rights to noncitizens, including undocumented immigrants. Other places that have passed or are considering such legislation include Massachusetts, San Francisco, Portland, and Maine and Washington, D.C.

Citizens of the local community :blessed:

Love watching out resident "progressives" thumb their noses and act like citizenship is some qualifying ability when this country just elected Trump and other trash routinely like it's a sport.
The gold star generation was obviously multigenerational.
